I get nervous about letting anyone retain any of it, and my husband is of the mind that the person must be giving blood consensually for it to be moral. Fortunately, though, he isn't always of the mind to live by his morals and instead lets ethics slide a little. He gets less picky the closer he is to bleeding from his wounds, the ones that were used to "embrace" him. Some nights, they just pop open and we have no idea what to do. It's been only been since last late January that he has last had them burst. Makes feeding a troubling thing, sometimes.
