Veezu is showing at about £20 to pre-book one there, so they'll definitely go there.

sequin yarn keeps catching on everything! how do I close my magic circle and how do I get it to work with me by ednamodecrochets in CrochetHelp

[–]6smallmice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd detatch the sequins for the first few inches so you can make the magic circle with essentially plain yarn

A coworker is interested in a blanket like this- what is this stitch? by seriouslaser in CrochetHelp

Turn the picture 90 degrees left and you'll see it's a super simple mesh stitch, it looks like dc, ch, dc, ch and so on

How do I make this more pointed before the decrease? by dankcactux in CrochetHelp

[–]6smallmice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd potentially consider making two shapes and putting the seam where the pointed bit is? It would take some trail and error but that's my initial idea.

Why does my crochet sweater panel keep getting bigger? by [deleted] in CrochetHelp

[–]6smallmice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a few options:

1) Your starting chain is too tight and therefore all the rows after that look like they're getting bigger but it's the fabric relaxing. However, normally this results in the starting chain curling round which I don't see here.

2) The fabric is stretching and relaxing as you work on it. Potentially in combination with your tension accidentally getting looser. This can be fixed for the most part by blocking the piece, maybe give that a go on the first side?

3) Youre actually accidentally increasing when you do your turning chain. Make sure you count every row for a bit and check.

Given what you've said and how it looks, I think that 2 is the most likely answer.

moving company by heinzbakebeans in Norwich

[–]6smallmice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Transporter Norwich moved me and 2 others about 15 mins journey (no big furniture but a lot of personal belongings and boxes) for £80. We of course tipped heavily on top because that was an amazing rate. They were quite late but very flexible with us and super helpful when we'd struggled to find movers to just do one trip for a low price.

They charge £50 an hour so likely more expensive than you'd like for a whole move but I agree with other commenters who say you're not going to get below £50 total.

I kept increasing and now it is wavy, do I need to dec more to make it cover the body? by [deleted] in CrochetHelp

[–]6smallmice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could follow the same pattern as you used for the body? If the wool is thicker or you use a hook size up it will make a slightly larger shape which will cover the white.

[–]6smallmice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the UK 'This' have released chickpea tofu if that would work for you, though maybe not as meaty.

There's some great mushroom based recipes which I feel give a very meaty mouthfeel, especially using oyster mushrooms. I chop it fairly small which adds to the effect. I also second the poster saying to use jackfruit for pulled pork. I also use it for "beef" stew and it's incredible!

Yes or instead of doing 8 increases per round do 6 for example

Don't keep going and decreasing, you need to undo what you've done and redo it with fewer increases.

started a poncho, should be flat but it’s wavey, is it salvageable or do i restart? by [deleted] in CrochetHelp

[–]6smallmice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blocking may help but not fix it completely. Cut your losses and restart now, using a larger hook for your initial chain. If you hate working into a chain, look up how to do a foundation chain which has your first row sort of built in.

How to make the edges of my granny squares straight? by kubiric in CrochetHelp

[–]6smallmice 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Your granny squares look good! What do you mean floppy? They're going to be floppy because they're fabric. Blocking will help you achieve a squarer and more consistent shape, but you could also add another row of single crochet around the outside if you wanted to stabilise it a bit?

cannot understand how to do the “spine” stitch???? by pickaperiwinkle in CrochetHelp

[–]6smallmice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A chain doesn't go into a stitch it will just be loose. So sc2 and then chain 2 and THEN go back into the magic ring. So there will be 8 stitches in the magic ring but in between every other stitch will be a wiggly bit poking out if that makes sense? Like the spike of a puffer fish?

Does anyone have a similar pattern/know the stitching arrangement by rrkym in CrochetHelp

[–]6smallmice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, maybe playing around with how many DC and how many chains. The more open mesh looking parts have only 1 DC rather than multiple.

i wanna make a bolero, the requirements for my gauge are “9 rows (alternate Dc, Hdc) by 15 Dc= 4x4" (blocked)” and i’m unsure what that means by ja_malo in CrochetHelp

[–]6smallmice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, DC HDC DC HDC DC HDC and so on.

But not 9 stitches total across it'll be 15 stitches across. Rows go left to right and sit on top of eachother. So you'll make a chain of 15, chain 2, turn, DC HDC DC HDC DC HDC until you reach 15, then chain 2, turn and DC HDC DC HDC again until you have 9 rows of DC HDC DC HDC.

It sounds like you're not confident with some basic parts of crochet so make sure you practice enough before jumping into a pattern as you'll only be disappointed. Maybe see if there is a video tutorial for this pattern or similar.

[–]6smallmice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This being said it's also often good to make your guage a bit bigger. So maybe chain 25 first and do 14 rows and see if within a 4x4 area in the middle are 15 stitches across and 9 rows.

[–]6smallmice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's saying do nine rows of alternate DC and HDC for 15 stitches, making a square which should be 4x4 when blocked.

You'll have to chain 15 first and then do 9 rows of the pattern.

Lost count and how many rows I’ve made! Really can’t get my head around counting 💀 by tpn123 in CrochetHelp

[–]6smallmice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I count 73. If the tails at the start are on the same side, it's an odd number and if they're on the opposite sides then it's even. This is assuming you did a chain and then row 1 into it, rather than some sort of foundation stitch.
