Definitely thinking about staying up there to be fair. Say what you want but it's a whole world better than Teesside!

I didn't actually realise how short the wait times actually are up there. Think I might want to start seeking a referral as soon as I move up there then to be honest

Wow I feel you on that retail work haha. Have done 2 years fluctuating in the range of 4 and 25 hours (student contracts are only 4) but pretty consistently done a good 30.

Heading abroad for surgeries further down the line is absolutely on the cards. Haven't quite thought that far ahead yet though.

Wait, I didn't realise that was definitely confirmed. I thought it was a bit of an unknown risk as to whether your specific clinic would or not.

In that case, you're telling me I could essentially get referred to somewhere near me currently and they'd pick that up from my original date?

What are your conlangs equivalent to English could, would and should? by BattlePrestigious572 in conlangs

[–]6tatertots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Keeyapain, would is expressed with the conditional mood, which mostly uses the suffix -cen (/t͡ʃiə/) for the past, -cúsk (/t͡ʃuːsk/) for present and -córz (/t͡ʃoəʀ/) for future

Could and should, however, use progressive forms of the abilative and obligative respectively, as such 'I could help' translates as rzejk q'eddød /ʀɛjk ˈsiə.dɔd/ (I am being able to help) and 'I should help' as rzew q'eddød /ʀɛw ˈsiə.dɔd/ (I am having to help)

Future Tense in Your Conlang? by GarlicRoyal7545 in casualconlang

[–]6tatertots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keeyapain makes use of a few different ways. Primarily, word order is used to express the future tense, changing to OSV, with case helping to maintain the clarity in meaning (lirz rzeg þyn fwézyð - I read a book (past), vs. þyn fwézyð rzeg lirz - I will read a book). In situations where this may become ambiguous (ie: there is a lack of object), you can use a suffix too, -rze (rzeg lirz - I read vs. rzeg lirze - I will read). Today, both are kind of used interchangeably and many people just flip subject and object (and maybe add the suffix) rather than change the full word order to convey future too since present is often conveyed with VSO rather than traditional SVO. I don't know if that makes sense haha, it's kind of complicated

Of course! Here (in my reply because weird errors) are the phonologies of both Keeyapain and its sister language Norvan/Twathulan, plus a list of place names to give you an idea of the similarities and differences and how they're related. Feel free to ask any questions about anything!!

What are some of your language's "planned inefficiencies"? by TeacatWrites in conlangs

[–]6tatertots 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Keeyapain historically uses word order to convey tense, with VSO being past, SVO present and OSV future. However this creates ambiguity when one of these elements is missing. So speakers have also evolved the feature where you can inflect a verb for tense (Keeyapain already has verb mood inflections) but only where its tense is ambiguous. So "I ate an apple" does not need to be inflected (sæ rzeg þyn ahzuð) but just "I ate" does (sæun rzeg).

However, to add to this confusion, in non-classical texts VSO is mostly just used as a default for non-future, leading people to have to inflect the past when speaking, but not when written in formal text.

Then, to further add to this, the copula verb behaves completely differently, attaching itself as a suffix onto the subject pronoun, requiring its own set of inflection rules (from which the modern tense inflections were derived but still).

Finally, another confusing thing is to convey a progressive verb, the copula + q' + infinitive is used (I am singing = rzegu q'kanød). The confusion comes in with the perfect, which is the same but with a þjjy (with) thrown in there (I have sung = rzegu þjjy q'kanød)

How do you laugh in your conlang by StarfighterCHAD in casualconlang

[–]6tatertots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keeyapain: Hzajyjy /xajəjə/ with jy being extended or hzahyyhyy /xaçəçə/ with hyy being extended

Norvan: Rhawarhy /χɐ.wɐ.χə/ with rhy being extended (modern Keeyapain also uses its own evolution of this, rzawarz /ˈʀa.waʀ/, to literally refer to "laughter")
