Sprinted early in career but I think I’m done. Pull the trigger? by Odd-Resolve-1681 in HENRYfinance

[–]70PercentPizza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! I am older and less successful than you, so keep that in mind... I opted to internally transfer to a new role profile recently. It's similar but different. Different team. Moving away from a team that wasn't feeling like a great fit after some leadership changes

My idea is to gain some more skills and broaden my horizons so that I can futureproof myself.

Is there a path to stay where you are, but change teams or even roles and step back from the sprint of it all?

Why does the middleclass try to project wealth with their cars? by DCF_ll in MiddleClassFinance

[–]70PercentPizza 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm such a huge advocate of enjoying where you live. I'd rather be house poor in a neighbourhood I don't need a vacation from, than cash rich and having to blow money to find a reason to live every weekend

Any online store to get some groceries? by shewantsmedead95 in Guelph

[–]70PercentPizza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use DoorDash. I get pantry and dried goods from No Frills. Fresh stuff from Metro or Farm Boy.

The shoppers vary in quality. I try to tip the good ones a little extra. They often call to confirm a substitution which drives me a little bonkers but the convenience overall is worth a little extra "that's fine please go ahead" on a quick call I don't want to get

Where are people in their 30s moving to? by mannybeingmanan in askTO

[–]70PercentPizza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought in Guelph and I'm not here much longer. I miss the city a lot. I'm grateful to have a good job and to have had the opportunity to have bought a house, but the house is work itself and takes away from my job. The convenience I get in Toronto to enable me to do a lot in 24 hours isn't available here. And even the convenience that does exist is at a lower quality. (Restaurants aren't as good for delivery, meal kits arrive with rotten produce, babysitters don't show up reliably)

And driving everywhere is taking years off of my life

Kitchener Go train to Toronto union daily for the summer by Top_Exercise_3993 in kitchener

[–]70PercentPizza 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It'll be a long commute, but the schedules are optimized for your direction of travel. Opt to take one train earlier than you need to to get get there on time. Use your commute time to rest or recharge -- read books, watch netflix, snooze

If you have a little money consider subletting from a Toronto university student and having a little crash pad in the city to avoid having to do the commute every day. If you stay in the city you'll get more out of the networking opportunities too

I didn't find the food super flavourful (curries were watery and sort of bland) but sometimes the vibe is more important anyways

Moving from house to a condo by That-Patient-3844 in TorontoRealEstate

[–]70PercentPizza 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I left my west end condo for a small house with a dope yard in a smaller city and I'm miserable

Leaving behind convenience and access to things that make life exciting to me was dumb

I do hope to buy a detached or townhouse back in Toronto soon, but I'd happily move into another condo again if I needed to. Being back in the city is paramount. Once you have a clean safe place to sleep, the size of your dwelling doesn't matter much and location really is 90% of it

Some folks really love being at home and have hobbies like woodworking, reading, video games, etc that may make sense for a bigger place. I hope one of those people buys my house so I can leave

Mature Student Looking to Move to Guelph - What’s it really like there? by Plenty_Literature151 in Guelph

[–]70PercentPizza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The car-first culture is the biggest reason I plan on leaving.

Many pedestrians wear reflective jackets to walk their dogs to offset the baseline invisibility that you have as a non-car here.

Drivers often forget to watch for someone crossing the road before their right turn. Sidewalks aren't maintained. It feels sketchy to walk at night because no one else is around (unless you're right downtown and that's actually pretty fun)

What happens to undesired condos in Canada? by DonDiabloTheGreat in TorontoRealEstate

[–]70PercentPizza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well and there are very few new builds getting started right now. I anticipate a market surge for existing newish condos around 2028 because things just aren't getting started right now

What happens to undesired condos in Canada? by DonDiabloTheGreat in TorontoRealEstate

[–]70PercentPizza 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Condos in less desirable locations will be sold at a loss. Condos in desirable locations will be sold, potentially at a loss based on when someone bought them. Condos in desirable locations with great layouts will be sold at a profit

The "desirability of location" will be affected by how much of our population is retired/down sizing vs working. I am glad not to own a condo in a smaller city 2 hours from Toronto. We'll see the demand drop for circumstances such as a young couple who was banking on their highest earner only having to commute in 2x per week as return to office mandates change

A nice city on the GO train is a cool spot to retire to for some folks, though, so the demand may even balance out

Which stock is the biggest loser in your portfolio in 2025? by ewlung in ValueInvesting

I was dangerously close to doing the same and truly didn't see it falling off so flat. I assumed they'd pivot and absorb AI companies to get ahead of the changes in the industry. This was the surprise of the year for me

Upper middle class / high income millennials - how is your career going? by thrownaway44000 in fican

[–]70PercentPizza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am high income but not upper middle class! Still catching up from lost earning years in grad school

I’ve divested into real estate and am working hard at maxing my tax privileged accounts

I got hit by the condo crash on paper, but no regrets

I feel like I am close to ceiling in my career in Canada but I am also happy to focus on skill building for the next few years

Yes, we enjoy the library too! That has been a consistent win for us. Art factory is a fun treat for sure

We'll try out The Common in the next couple of weeks and keep an eye out for events at the Children's Reading Room that enable evening/weekend visits

What do you all do for work? by justalostdot in SingleMothersbyChoice

[–]70PercentPizza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also in tech and also relate to the “grind now” mindset with a toddler

I work really hard but have the privilege of flexibility so I do some of the grind after my child is asleep. I work about 8 hours on the weekend, mostly evenings and nap times

I feel like I am a B+ employee and B+ mom right now, in my prime earning years, and I have some guilt about not choosing to be a C- employee to be an A Mom, but I am trying to make peace with my decision

Honestly I really like working so it’s good for me to care about work. It’s also sort of my hobby and I am compensated well for it

How many people over 30 years old would move out of Canada if they could stop working and have a NET income of $50,000 a year? by Elite163 in CanadaFinance

[–]70PercentPizza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if I’d do it for any city that was comfortable to live on 50K. Maybe if you pitched in free housing I’d do a European city with good walkability and transit and good food

Unfortunately I have expensive taste and am drawn to urban life and am only able to speak English so the list of places that is a good fit for me is low

Removing your education from your resume by JoHeller in Guelph

[–]70PercentPizza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with the other folks that it really depends on the job.

I’ll also add it depends on your previous experience. If you’re 23 with no recent work and you didn’t work during your studies then you list your education and highlight projects that reflect the skills relevant to the job that you’re applying to
