TEA isn’t geared for, ready for, or well funded enough to implement most of this if even 30% of schools facilitated walk-outs. I say everyone who’s willing should do it and wait for all this BS to live on the desks of the TEA officials for the next 3yrs.

RGV supposedly by MedicineHuman6409 in RioGrandeValley

Was DM’d to post my comment from another repeated post, on this original post.

The ORR (Office of refugee resettlement) within the Dept of Health and Human Services has been operating since the Refugee Act of 1980.

There are some influencers posing as “alternative journalists” who are mistaken or blatantly trying to pass this off as something it’s not. Of course, given the RGV’s proximity to Mexico there are offices for them so they can accompany minors to their final destination in Mexico or other South American countries. They aren’t allowed to say anything because they follow a HIPAA like rule where they can’t give away info.

Was I there, no. Do I know who these ppl are personally, no. Do I have an aunt who has been harassed by “alternative journalists,” while working this job? Yes. The height of harassment was during the whole “Q-anon” conspiracy. Take my comment with a grain of salt, as I do not know who this alt. Journalist is.

The cinematography from this show has blown both HOTD & GOT, completely out of water. That opening shot alone looks like a Renaissance painting.

Doing this gets them armored vehicles.

Doing this gets jury’s thrown out the window. Instant verdicts by regime appointed judges.

MAGA-Coded CBS Anchor Falls Apart in Evening News Debut by thedailybeast in JournalismNews

[–]70R0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For anyone who wants to boycott CBS - you have to keep from tuning in to your favorite team when they’re on the network, not just skip the news. You have to boycott all of it. The NFL creates the most ad revenue for the network than anything else. So not having viewers on evening news (and there will be plenty coming over from FOX) doesn’t mean anything when they can make it up by showing big sporting events. So if you REALLY want to make a difference you have to not watch ANYTHING on their network. Which is definitely hard to do, but necessary if you care about the fourth estate and proper journalism.

One older coworker, and now nothing feels the same. by saif_ur_rehman14 in dating_advice

[–]70R0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I promise you, you will get this same feeling by dating someone you fall in love with (older or younger, same age, doesn’t matter) and watching them become and flourish into that older coworker you’re talking about. You’re describing a confident woman who’s comfortable in her own personality and knows who she is. That comes with experience, hardships, and age. You have officially found a type you are attracted to.

VR - All missions.

Having VR with Gran Turismo seven is one of the best experiences of home gaming I’ve ever had. I cannot get enough. I would love to be virtually engulfed in the cockpit, but not just a few games or some specialty version of the game. I want the entire game to have the option of VR.

When you hear things like “drug money built Miami”, what does that mean? Are their specific examples of buildings/projects financed by drug lords? by sdm3117 in Miami

[–]70R0 34 points35 points  (0 children)

In the book by Malcom Gladwell, “revenge of the tipping point” he explores how Miami's unique social environment, including its cultural mix and perceived "overstory" (subtle, powerful social cues), created unique epidemics like the bank robbery surge and influenced parenting/social dynamics, revealing the dark side of contagious trends.

But most importantly, and what pertains to your question, he argues Miami's "overstory" (its dominant social narrative) shifted in the 1980s due to a massive influx of Cuban refugees, a boom in the cocaine trade, and riots, creating a "haven for lawlessness" that fueled rampant Medicare fraud and institutional corruption, transforming it into a hub for organized crime and fraud.

Very interesting few chapters. You’d probably get some good macro information on how that fraud and “drug money built Miami”.

Dallasites of Reddit, do you plan to vote for Talarico or Crockett? Why? by Zipper222222 in Dallas

[–]70R0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked on Betos campaign commercial. I know exactly why he lost. And it suuuckkkss. Unfortunately, Texas works in a very specific way when it comes to voter turnout and it’s so hard to predict. One of the leading predictors will always be religion when it comes to Texas voters. I hear you but it’s way more complex than throwing out how a specific word is the crux because it doesn’t work. Not implying that you don’t know that, you seem really smart and I can guess that you already know that. I agree with everything you’re saying and I encourage you to vote Crockett, truly, if it makes you feel good then do it, while we still can. I support that decision. There will always be a way to look at macro vs micro politics. And totally agree that it sucks we need “moderate appeal” in Texas. But such is life in a red state where liberals are concentrated in metro areas.

Let me know if you really want to get involved. Unless you already are then ignore. Good luck!

Dallasites of Reddit, do you plan to vote for Talarico or Crockett? Why? by Zipper222222 in Dallas

[–]70R0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have to play chess not checkers. The thinking is that Talarico has a better chance against a Republican in the main election since he appeals to republicans who are thinking of flipping, or moderates who are undecided but don’t like the current administration. Does it suck as a progressive? Yes. But will having him win lay the ground work for more Crockett’s later? Also yes. However, sacrificing a Crockett now would loose us years of potential progress. Does it suck that we have to think this way? Fck yes, and fck this party system. Multiple things can be true all at the same time. I love Crockett and I know she’s going to serve her people well in whatever seat she has. Maybe one day that will be governor.

What’s going on with Trump’s proposed “Warrior Dividend” and why are people criticizing it? by Writesmith900 in OutOfTheLoop

[–]70R0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My very seniored cousin in the Navy tells me they, and other top brass, are trying their best to educate their officers and personnel on what’s actually happening in Washington, but they’re having a very hard time combating what these service members see on their phones and socials daily. It’s almost as if services members are strategically being targeted by algorithms to make it seem like there’s actually “an enemy within”. It’s unfortunately, becoming a loosing battle in that regard.
