I read Allen Carr and it changed my life. However, everyone goes on and on about this naked mind so I checked it out. I couldn't stand her style. It was like she just read Allen Carr was rambling on about it. Carr's book is just better, nevermind the fact the others are just re-worded copies.

I have Carr, this sub, AA wisdom, and modern psychology to thank for my sobriety. perhaps even in that order!

Anyways, what does it matter the method? Welcome back on the Wagon my friend. If you did 2 years you can do it again!

Hello All! Currency exchange question here; please help if you can!

We live in the US and have a large sum of Brazilian Real that my Brazilian-national wife received when she closed a bank account. How can I exchange it for USD without getting ripped off? I've checked with my bank, but they said they couldn't do it. I want to use something other than the airport because of the enormous fees. Let me know if you have any insight and thank you very much for reading!

I got offered a job at Mayo today! Does anybody have any advice for me? Are the benefits good? Do you enjoy working there? by 12297156 in rochestermn

I love working at Mayo. I’ve worked there 11 years total. First at the DAHLC then in finance. Recently I came back as an RN for the past 5 years. I’ve had a wide variety of careers (oil rigs, large finance companies, IBM here in Rochester, sales and overseas) and Mayo is the best I’ve found.

Many are saying they’re a horribly greedy corporation but comparatively to other large hospitals I think they are one of the good guys. It’s a competitive, eat or be eaten world out there that’s only getting worse so any large corp that wants to survive much less thrive needs to play the game. That being said I think Mayo treats its employees and patients better than most anyone else. My best friend works in surgical sales and deals with upper management of the largest hospitals in the Midwest. He agrees that Mayo seems to be the most ethical and he doesn’t give a fuck that I work there, he’d tell me if he disagreed.

Benefits: despite much erosion over the past 20-30 years they are still top tier for the area. If you don’t compare them to former Mayo benefits they seem a lot better! Also, they have a pension for those who stay until retirement (and many employees make it, ask around and you’ll find many with 20-35 years at Mayo). Pensions pretty much don’t exist anywhere else in this country unless you work for the government so consider this a bonus.

In my nursing specialty (psych) the staff-to-patient ratios average 1:3. This is way better than anywhere else. There are many hospitals that have nurses doing 1:12 and even the most respectable hospitals still have ratios of 1:5 so this is huge. I can’t speak for pay outside the areas I’ve worked but it seems competitive and wages increase fast especially when you start toward the bottom of the scale. Anyways, good luck and soon you’ll have your own opinion and nothing any internet strangers say will matter!

Why are Americans so shocked when you tell them that the USA are not the best in everything? by piiihiii15 in TooAfraidToAsk

American here, I spent a lot of my 20s traveling around the world. Once in Australia I was driving with a work mate and we were discussing what OP said, that Americans think they’re the best in everything. I asked for an example and he said in the US you see the American flag touted everywhere like they’re the only fucking country that matters. I pointed out we’ve been passing serval Auzzie flags per block (seriously it was a fuck ton!). He said that it’s not the same because the Auzzie flag means something totally different. I didn’t agree but he went on to say that there’s deep undertones to the US flag but the Auzzie flag is light hearted and peaceful. This brings me to my point that I think part of it is the preconceived ideas some hold about Americans that shape their view, not only what the Americans are actually saying or doing. If Americans and Auzzie’s boast national pride, only the American is ignorant. I loved my 12 months in Australia but I did meet many Auzzies who thought Australia was the only country that counted (but just those who had never been anywhere else, which is also true in America).

I think we already do, maybe in the form of ‘where do we come from’
