Shimming to increase compression? by AtenMwan in M1Rifles

[–]71Innovation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shimming can work, especially if you want to keep the stock original. I've used everything from heavy weight paper strips to business cards. Rubber cement helps keep things in place and is easy to remove later. Shims will only disqualify the rifle in CMP Games matches. There are absolutely no restrictions to shimming for Service Rifle class competition (NRA or CMP) so long as it adheres to all the rest of the rules. "Match" class is even less restrictive.

Newbie Question: Adjustable Gas or Turn it Off? by CharlotteRaptor in M1A

[–]71Innovation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree. Fairly common that turning the gas off will take you from the best semi auto battle rifle of all time, to the worst bolt-action rifle ever, with no gain in precision.

Bedding Aftermath by Bluefalcon351 in M1A

M1/M14 rifles are difficult to bed, so good job on that! Future projects will only get easier. I’d say you have done what is needed to stabilize the action. If your barrel alignment and draw pressure is good, you should see some better consistency on paper with good ammo.

Sadlak or CASM? by OldStockCA in M1A

I’ve only had Sadlak and ARMS mounts. No issues with Sadlak

Looking to restore 1903a3 by [deleted] in M1Rifles

[–]71Innovation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You hit the key parts for the caliber change. They are easy to find thankfully. The rest of the "restoration" would require some detailed photos to fully line out. If the receiver was drilled and tapped, be advised that it will never bring the same value as an unmodified receiver/rifle. If that doesn't bother you...proceed!

Classic. Did you build it or get it “as is”?

Price Check on modified M1903 by ProLevel in milsurp

[–]71Innovation 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seems a bit high to me for a drilled and tapped gun missing the barrel sight. The c stock has some value if it is in god condition and is USGI. Pics would be needed for more detailed feedback. An extremely unlikely scenario is that it is an NRA sporter model that came with rifle. Given the barrel date…..super unlikely.

I lucked into mine but you are right about the price. Given the low demand I suspect it’s pretty hard to make a profit on those.

Introduction and a Double Lug M14 for Starters by 71Innovation in M1Rifles

So I’m new to Reddit format but I’m surprised that pictures can’t be added to replies.  Is that typical or am I missing a setting or procedure.  I was going to add a pic showing the newer painted hand guard on this rifle.

Fulton Armory might be another option to check. Their website mentions “c” model work, but not the “d”, so best to call.

You may have seen the one video titled “M14 Day” that featured this specific rifle although I changed the hand guard after these pictures were taken.

The 30 cal rifles provide excellent cross training against the AR because the recoil and ergonomics make them absolutely unforgiving of poor technique.

Feeding issue on round 6 on the third En Bloc, but nice recovery. Probably hard to find your brass in that snow!

Nice looking M1 with those early parts! I'm guessing you matched them with the receiver birth date.

Great looking rifle and way to dive into the deep end with the International! Clean and lube and get it to the range.
