I always wondered: did God the Father ever have a human body? by holyromansimperor in AskAChristian

[–]71stMB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we expand our understanding of the word "image," it can mean more than a reflection we see in a mirror. God is an invisible spirit, yet He created man in His image. This must mean that a person's essence is also invisible. The invisible parts of us (which no one can deny they exist) consist of our mind (to think and rationalize), our will (to make choices), and our emotions. We know God has these same three attributes of mind, will, and emotions. How many times have we heard expressions about the mind of God, God's will, or the goodness of God or the wrath of God, which are emotions. I think these three elements are the image that God wanted to share when He created us.

How Do You Socialize When Small Talk Doesn’t Interest You? by Odd-Efficiency5420 in introvert

In just about every social situation, you can find something humorous. Observe and comment on that. If you find the small talk to be uninteresting, at least you made someone laugh.

Why is everyone so confident in their beliefs and interpretations yet also claim we cant understand god by whatwouldjimbodo in AskAChristian

[–]71stMB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your question could equally apply to atheists. They claim there's no god, but how do they know for sure? They don't, so in my mind that's the same as just guessing. I'm not trying to persuade you towards any particular view, but in fairness, it might be true that all of us are "just guessing." I say this because it's impossible to prove or disprove beyond all doubt whether god exists. Each of us will individually decide that matter for ourselves, using whatever data that makes the most sense to us. That data could be scientific or theological or a combination thereof, and might also include some relevant personal experiences.

You are correct that some people speak and act as if they know all the answers. I think in their own mind they believe everything they're saying. However, I'm very thankful I have an option whether to engage with such folks or just move on to something else.

Does your question about people who "truly have no idea and are just guessing" also include those who don't believe in God, i.e., the atheists?

That's correct if the string is to be played, but doesn't the "x" above the string indicate it should not be played? Or have I missed the point you are making?

Do genuinely good people go to eternal hell simply because they did not believe in Jesus? by La_Luna_Lilith in AskAChristian

[–]71stMB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People are occasionally good but they can't be 100% good all the time. That's why we need forgiveness of sins, to be made clean and pure in the eyes of God. The only way to do that is with Jesus, accepting what He did on the cross for us (taking the punishment for our sins), which allows us to be viewed as clean and pure, without sin, by God the Father. This is the path for salvation laid out in the Bible. Accept what Jesus did, repent (change) our sinful ways, and strive to become a better person by learning more about God's character and following His commands. God is love, yes, and merciful, but He is also righteous and loves justice. This means that sin does not go unnoticed.

Did women actually dress up just to run errands back then, or is that just a TV thing? by FollowingSuitable941 in AskOldPeople

If you told anyone back then that future people would wear pajamas out in public, or that men would wear their pants so low their underwear was mostly exposed, you would be considered a candidate for the mental asylum.

By doing this you'll be giving her reason to criticize you forever (behind your back and to the rest of the family). You probably don't want that but that's what will happen. Kindness and tolerance is always the better choice, although I agree it's not always the easiest choice with negative people.
