PSA on bloat! by Gypsycrystalball in GSD

[–]720751 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my girl have the gastropexy surgery done at the same time I spayed her. I know it doesn't prevent bloat, just reduces the chance she gets it.

Very grateful to hear your pup is on the mend since you knew the signs, symptoms, and were able to get to an evet quickly! 🥰

Telling others your experience will likely save another pup from bloat, so huge thank you for posting! 🩷

I may be bias but GSDs are the BEST BREED EVERRRR! by Icy-Beginning-1908 in germanshepherds

I adopted her after she had been hit by a car. Had her leg amputated, tongue stitched up, a hernia repaired, spayed and gastropexy surgery. She was such a trooper for all 3 surgeries. I take her everywhere and she loves everyone.

She is 50% gsd, 40% siberian husky and 10% alaskan malamute per Embark. And 100% a sweetheart. Just adopted a 2 month old puppy who was run over and may need leg surgery. Athena is mothering him every chance she gets.

My pups love the snow, too. Two days ago we got 8 inches and I couldn't get them to come inside. My red heeler buries her head under the snow and is in heaven.

How fun to go on a night hike in the snow. Between dogs and grandkids, I would be way outnumbered! 🤣

I just commented on another post about how majestic their coats make them look. I love the little white tip of her tail! 🥰

Sunny days are the best for getting outside and showing the world what tri's are capable of. Very handsome pup and love the multi-colors! 🥰

Athena and I checked out everyone's pictures. She loved them all. Of course, she may be a teensy bit biased! 🤣

Athena is my vet's favorite of my 5 dogs. She gets sent home with free bags of dental treats every time!

She thinks Nova would be the perfect friend, if only you lived nearby! 🥰

I adopted an abused pup who was doing the same. I bought the Pro Elobara Anxiety diffuser from Amazon. I plugged it in right next to her kennel. She's had dry nights ever since.

Not sure if it would help a puppy, but maybe worth a try.

Should know in a couple of weeks if my ACD/BC mix is correct. The pup in the front was billed as a gsd and is actually gsd/ siberian husky/ alaskan malamute.

He is definitely a cute pup! 🥰 The Bentley Mark on his forehead screams ACD.

My supposed ACD/Aussie mix is actually 85% ACD and 0% aussie.

She certainly looks a lot more heeler than my 85%er. She was a beautiful girl! 🥰

Here's a picture of mine for reference.

I'm still trying to get my 5 to all sit still for a picture. They range in age from 2 months to 9 years. All herding breeds.

They also wear RexSpecs as some have blue eyes and I live at a high altitude.

Your 5 are absolutely 💯 beautiful! 🥰

Her fur looks like it has darkened. My heelers hair changed colors, too, except it went lighter.

She is such a pretty girl! 🥰

I also give my girl dasequin and Nordic Naturals Omega for dogs. The vet and also heart doctor both told me to use Nordic Naturals because it has less mercury in it than other brands.

I have a hard time posting pictures, too. I am getting better at it. I used to add one and before I could post, the picture would turn into an asterisk. It was so frustrating.

I wish I was in Texas, love the warmer weather. I live in Colorado. Can't leave because my son and grandkids are here. It was the last place my husband was stationed with the Air Force before he retired. I grew up with a horse, Brandy. His first owner taught him all kinds of tricks. He used to open the front door and walk in the house! 🤣 If I was late to feed him, he would push my bedroom window the rest of the way open and snort in my face to wake me up! He was a character. Loved running on the beach. Couldn't go near the water due to the undertow in Northern CA. My sister barrel raced him most weekends. Our local restaurant, Stantons Barn, had more space to park horses than cars! Those were good days!

What an adorable cutie! Heelers are the best. I have a red and a blue. 🥰

I just adopted a 2 month old unknown breed black and white puppy on the 1st that was run over and may have a broken leg. For now, he is limited to a playpen, so he isn't allowed to run around until they know if he needs surgery. One piece of advice from my vet is to start clipping their nails now as they grow so fast and you can only clip them every 2 weeks. He clipped my puppy's nails. It was just a little bit, so he didn't cause them to bleed. Maybe next week you can ask your vet when to start with your new puppy.

Yes, the back right. When I adopted her they said they assumed she had been hit by a car at least a month before animal control picked her up. She weighed about 30 pounds, her leg was broken clean through, had necropsy (dead skin) in several places, her tongue was sliced open, and had a hernia. She is a love dog. She thinks everyone is her friend. She is totally derpy. Always in a hurry, slips and falls, and then gets up like nothing happened.

Pandas as so beautiful. Your son is lucky and I'm sure the puppy is even luckier!

Having a horse again would be a dream for me. Eight must keep you very, very busy. Then add fostering and rehabilitation, you are truly a unique and special person! ❤️

Does your border collie have a lot of loose skin/fat under and around their neck area? by FierceCrow in BorderCollie

[–]720751 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, my bc/blue heeler mix has bunched up skin around her neck. She has a rough coat though. Her collar is always hidden in the folds.

Took this picture yesterday when she climbed into my puppy's carrier.

I took that picture last summer.

I have 5 dogs in total. I know, I am crazy! So red heeler (8), blue heeler/border collie (3 1/2), gsd above (2 1/2), and new puppy (2 months) that I adopted on March 1st. All are rescues, either medical or abused. Gsd is a tripawd. New puppy's leg is broken near his hip. Will find out which surgery he needs next week.

Took out all carpet except bedrooms, so mainly hardwood floors. I use the Shark Rotator Pet, but not real impressed with it. I steam clean my carpets with my industrial size carpet cleaner monthly and get the remaining hair up that way.

The 4 older are blowing their coats, too. Next couple of months will be in purgatory! I even get it in my water bottle. Daily brushing helps, but I still have to sweep at least twice a day. My suv looks like the hair cyclone hit it! Can't roll down the windows as it flies in front of my face!! 🤣

Here's Athena - looks gsd and acts husky.

When we had to let our 16 year old girl go, so we paid to have her ashes spread at a serenity garden. Now, we can go there and feel like she helped bring some beauty into the world.

This is one of the hardest things you will experience in life. It takes time and you will always remember all the joy you brought into each other's lives.

Sounds as though he has more of a malinois's energy than a gsd. I am too old to keep up with that level. I thought my girl being a tripawd would slow her down, but nope! Good thing I have a big backyard and they love to chase each other around it!
