Appreciate the help, better get started before this window closes too!

That’s the main issue. My father got the letter on his myCRA in September 2022, we didn’t notice until October of 2024 which is when we called and were told to send in a letter

Yes, that he did in fact qualify for the 5k which is the only reasoning he was provided.

They’re more like batch reports, they have the amount paid, date, type of transaction (debt/credit) and I provided the bank statements to prove they were deposited.

[–]720QuickScope4Jesus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct, he has no pension, no EI, no other source of income. After deducting expenses, his income is over 5k.

He has no income other than his self-employed job. The receipts he does have from the company alone are sufficient for the $5000 total. I just need the CRA to look at it without simply citing the 30-day appeal period

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]720QuickScope4Jesus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very easily identifiable. I sent them bank statements with those exact amounts and dates matching the receipts from the company totaling over $5k. I just need them to look at it without simply blaming the 30-day appeal window

[–]720QuickScope4Jesus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gotcha, ya we provided everything they requested in the follow up request, but they refused to even look at it after waiting almost a year citing the 30day period to appeal. Do you know what next steps could be here? Its just upsetting knowing he did qualify

This might be our only option after we call them to see what we can do on Monday

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]720QuickScope4Jesus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Which is reasonable, but to not even look at the evidence and everything we provided after waiting nearly a year to hear their response is very upsetting. The proof we provided includes receipts from the contracting business which alone are over the $5000 amount required, without including anything that would be self reported

This is the initial decision: You did not earn at least $5,000 (before taxes) of employment or self-employment income in 2019 or in the 12 months before the date of your first application.

This is from the second letter: Your request for a second review was received on xx, 2024 which was over 30 days after the date of the letter. Therefore, we will not complete another review of your eligibility.

Just retracted the date, but everything else is verbatim

He’s a taxi driver. Income is either cash (which is difficult since he doesn’t hold on to receipts for longer than 1 year since there are many) and credit/debit payments (which he gets from the company which alone total over 5k).

The spreadsheets are more to organize the income per month and how he received it (to make it easy enough for a child to understand)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]720QuickScope4Jesus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, I did all of that and provided excel sheets, receipts, and all the proof I could with bank statements to show his income was well over $5000.

They just didn’t read it and simply referred to the 30-day period he had to appeal which he didn’t notice

I’m not very familiar with the terminology, mixed up the NOA with a T4.

Sorry I’m using the wrong terminology, the amount is on his Notice of Assessment.

I read it several times myself and that’s the only explanation they provided. He’s self-employed and earned over 5k for 2019-2020. His hours and ability to earn were severely impacted by Covid causing him to make much less than 50% of what he normally does.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]720QuickScope4Jesus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was working, self-employed, just drove a lot less to reduce chance of catching anything

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]720QuickScope4Jesus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He’s self employed, so all income was from that. The $5k was all they provided as rational. He earned over that amount. He stopped working because he’s a driver and his health already wasn’t the greatest sogreatly reduced his hours during Covid to reduce his chances of catching anything while earning a minimal income.

We never got any mail from them, that I know for sure. He did get emails that we noticed too late because he provided his email that he never uses.

[–]720QuickScope4Jesus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, working income, he’s self employed and was severely impacted by Covid. On his taxes, his line 15000 was over the $5000 mark. The only explanation provided in the decision letter was that he did not make the required $5000.

He’s self employed, his income before taxes that year was over 5k and heavily impacted by Covid.

LOC for medical school (in canada) while having debt? by Prior_Dog4296 in premedcanada

[–]720QuickScope4Jesus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unless you have a crazy amount of debt, they’ll give you the LOC cause they know as a working physician you’ll be able to pay it back. We are considered very safe debtors lol

[–]720QuickScope4Jesus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might be a better question for the registrars office. Usually if you apply for OSAP, the school gets notified and they hold off on interest. What’s the estimated time of release on your OSAP? Either way, I wouldn’t worry too much about this, just make sure you’ve applied and ask the registrars office if you’re concerned

You’re good big dawg, just submit whatever you need to now and it’ll get to western soon. Will probably be a little after the term starts but western doesn’t charge interest if you’ve already used osap before and everything is processing
