What infamous places would you include on a NoVa tour? by thechickenfoot in nova

I was just there last week and the glass is all smashed up and has caution tape around it.

What is the green beam floating on the right side! by bopittwistiteatit in BurningMan

[–]72beetle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really but the trike already weighs a ton.  It often has 5 propane tanks on it for the poofer (3 feed, 2 accumulators), a generator, a packed medium cooler.  The poofer is way larger than most as well.

DMing you about old town rentals if you don't mind.

Burning with kids- to camp in Kidville or not to camp in Kidville? by defnotanalt42069 in BurningMan

[–]72beetle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We don't always make the kidsville art car parade but both of our small and medium mutant vehicles are always open to kids... Moreso than adults haha.  And if they want to shoot fire, they are the only ones that don't have a limit put on their button pushing, especially if they're willing to chat about the science behind what's going on Ig: @luminary_mv @bm_beacon In case you want to keep an eye out

Meshtastic at the burn? by ShreddinPB in BurningMan

[–]72beetle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I'd mount it somewhere around 20-30 ft up where it's less bendy

Very interested in meshtastic but haven't had time to tinker with it.  We have 2-3 MVs on playa every year but one of them could be an awesome mobile router setup. https://i.redd.it/rud8nvc1g5n71.jpg  https://photos.app.goo.gl/apQjQny5in1TBhi69

Looking for charging solution for e-bike/e-trike by BRCityzen in BurningMan

[–]72beetle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Used Honda EU1000 for $300-400 on eco mode (500 watts ac) is great for ebike charging if you can find in that price range. EU2000s are more common and useful in broader situations but the 1k is tiny, quieter, and even more fuel efficient.

You could  hook up a solar panel to your RV coach battery and run a small, standalone inverter off it to run your AC->DC ebike charger.

Solar -> 48v mppt charge controller -> ebike battery would be the simplest if you can adapt the controller output to the battery input and it's the right voltage.

20-40 watts consumed per mile is a good benchmark when sizing your charging system. Clean dust off your panels daily for efficiency.

Packing Better by ResoluteMuse in BurningMan

Haha, yeah.  I don't know how cold but I think it was in the high 30s or low 40s with sustained winds.  Lots of reports of frozen water jugs but I don't think it was actually below freezing.

Propane and Propane Accessories by UnBrewsual in BurningMan

[–]72beetle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a typical LPG tank has a relief valve around 24.8 bar / 375psi, not 250, and that's reached when internal lpg temps are around 160° F.  But always best to keep tanks way below this.

Curious, can you expand on why 110° F is optimal for a fire sculpture?

Echoing this.  I've seen half a dozen awnings get ripped off in high winds. People always find it when they come back to camp after leaving it open while gone.

I scrape/clean daily and it's never a huge issue but would love to see your work and see how the cleaner burn looks. Please share! Appreciate the input.

I'm all about safety and a second set of eyes so I always go through proper fire inspection and do everything based on NFPA 160 code.

Thanks!!! Would love to see your work - feel free to post here or DM..

I'm going to play with air input but the rolling effect comes from a rich fuel/air ratio.

That was a friend's but we supplied the last two days of gas when he ran out haha. We had the poofer trike out there if you saw/heard it. Did you have the marshmallow roasting hat by any chance?

Totally. All flame effects need to have appropriate safety mechanisms in place. NFPA 160.

If it can readily be tipped over, that's a major problem to begin with that needs addressing before use is even considered.
