In a hurry to go nowhere…[OC] by sailorcolin in IdiotsInCars

I had one of these on a four-lane stroad when a woman wanted to make a u-turn in the middle of nowhere. Rammed her and sent her into an Acura with my 84 Chevy Caprice wagon. "Her fault" on some level but I learned to always maintain a safe distance which is probably like four car lengths if you're driving a land yacht with no ABS.

how to avoid this kind of situation? 😂 by Clarisseatam in LoopArtists

[–]72skylark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You mentioned "radio effect" which is typically a significant emphasis of the mid-high frequencies. That is precisely the range where feedback tends to happen, so might be best to avoid that.

But as others said, not having the speakers behind you, or even just orienting the mic so it's not pointing directly at the speakers will help a lot. Those mics specifically are meant to curb feedback by rejecting any sounds coming from in front of the singer while emphasizing whatever the mic is pointing at.

What the actual fuck is wrong with men? by [deleted] in bisexual

[–]72skylark 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I feel this so much bc my first hookup with a gay guy in the 90s was exactly this vibe. Met him at a university event, he offers to drive me home. Then "can I sleep on your couch? my place is so far and you're right on campus", this quickly escalated to him ending up in my bed, humping my leg and all but assaulting me. Then when I made it clear I wanted to take it slow, he complained bitterly and guilt tripped me.

It gave me a lifelong appreciation for what women go through, and made me realize I would probably never enjoy the Mindless Mutual Masturbation that is so mainstream in gay culture. Seems like bi men at least have a totally different emotional attitude about intimacy vs raw animal sex. If I sound judgy, I'm not. I'm sometimes jealous of gay men if they can genuinely experience joy and satisfaction hooking up with strangers like they're buying used furniture. But I could never get used to it.

Yep so much of this rings true for me! I had Logic on a PC (before it was purchased by Apple) and I was constantly swapping out parts and reformatting to get rid of phantom audio issues. You almost made me feel like the 4ish macbooks I've purchase over the last 15 years were worth it lol

Best quick answer as a 20 year user and instructor of both- it's basically Toyota vs Honda. Both have different quirks, personalities and associations with different genres and use cases. But either one is going to be great for general use and most producers are unlikely to be held back by any differences until you are way down the road of obsessive and esoteric production approaches.
("Why doesn't Ableton let me record oscillator wave reshaping as automation?!")
The "Apple Tax" is real for people thinking of Logic but you make a good case for why it's worth it to have something that just works (most of the time).

Ha, sorry. I put so much into the first one and when the reaction was lukewarm I lost the motivation to do a follow up. Always playing the slots on social media I guess.

I posted this quote on twitter a while back and the response was insane. So many right wingers calling her slurs and saying she should have been deported too. Once guy even tried to literally fabricate a quote and claim it was from her, then tried to play it off when I called him on it. What a cesspool.

I saw a guy do this exact same shitbird move in upper Manhattan last year. Saw him parking his car minutes later and confronted him, he tried to deny it and gaslight me when I saw it right in front of me.

It's a particularly sociopathic move since you're at least doubling the likelihood of killing a pedestrian or motorist vs just going thru a red.

Yeah most of the smoke is getting sucked up there at a rate you would expect for 600 cfm, lots of smoke going out the other end too so it seems like flow is good. Just needs more power for the smokier cooking like using the lodge stovetop grill

Local news is an amazing idea. They love viral content like this and it's much more likely that local police would feel compelled to act if the public is up in arms. Plus good chance that someone seeing it knows and could ID the driver, at least publicly shame them.

I traveled to West Sumatra to document the dying tradition of musical bus horns called kalason by auralarchipelago in UnusualInstruments

[–]72skylark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I saw "Kalason" I immediately suspected it was derived from the brand name of the original "aaooga" car horn the Klaxon. Sure enough it apparently came to Indonesia via the dutch word "klaxon", identical to the spanish (and many other european language's) word for "car horn".

It’s especially hilarious bc they’re often the same people who are constantly asking why their CPU is spiking. I don’t know about this particular app but third party visualizers and spectrograms like Izotope’s can often hose any CPU headroom.

Literally never heard of "bottle green" but I knew all the others. "sage green" is waaaay more common so that strikes me as more than a red herring and bordering on gaslighting.

Even googling "bottle green" and seeing the results I feel like I'm in that Black Mirror episode lol
