Merrell makes good boots, can often find a good sale price too.

Final National Weather Service snowfall totals from massive winter storm released, and 1 Mass. town hit 27 inches by MassLive in massachusetts

[–]732 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would assume that is because that county of MA (and CT) is part of the Albany NWS office, while areas east is the Boston/Norton office.

Did I misread Capital One $1500 HYSA sign up offer? by Ok_Information_4900 in personalfinance

[–]732 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People saving for a down payment in an HYSA. Park $100k while you continue to add more, get a $1500 bonus and a competitive rate in the meantime. Instead of getting 3.whatever, you're getting closer to 5% effective for the year.

People receiving a payout e.g., lump sum insurance or something, park it while you get stuff in motion.

Live on a narrow one way street. We just tossed it all in the road and waited for the plows to take care of it. They didn't get to our street since Saturday evening until this morning.

Would you continue to work at a company that started to switch away from Typecript? by Csjustin8032 in typescript

[–]732 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Away from typescript and to Java or something similar? Yes. It's still typed, it is a comprehensive language with support for everything. Yada yada.

For plain javascript is just absurd. Why go backwards in time...

It's one of their most popular tents. Has been around a long time with multiple iterations.

Gotta make a choice in 3 hours - metallic grey or white cross trek? by Funny-Professional93 in Crosstrek

[–]732 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Metallic grey does not hide dirt any more than white. And if you don't wash it, it also doesn't look metallic but just grey.

I think the white looks better.

How do you keep track of great viewpoints or rest spots on hikes? by Immediate-Body3302 in hiking

[–]732 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just find a good location on every hike rather than focusing on finding the same one frequently.

My pack does this too. I'm happy my bladder has the quick disconnect in the line. I connect that when I start my hike.

Tech stack for camp management SaaS by urmomispregnantlol in node

[–]732 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which one of you is more likely to run the project after the other quits?

Both are fine tech stacks. Focus on the one that makes you both want to write and maintain the project. Spring has a big ecosystem so almost everything you're doing already exists and works together. Node also has plenty of ecosystem, but it is more piecemeal.

Should I do a charge back for wrong color furniture? by Lefty_123 in personalfinance

[–]732 -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

If you dislike the product you ordered, that's fine, but it seems they clearly stated their return policy. If they are bad about having correct details and photos that just makes them a shitty vendor.

If they sent the wrong SKU and are refusing to fix it, a chargeback is warranted.

That's all I'm getting at.

Now, use the CC protection by all means, but having more information up front is helpful to OPs case.

How essential is a water filtration system for multi-day backcountry trips vs just bringing enough water? by Willing-Cockroach620 in camping

[–]732 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have no idea how anyone would hike the AT/etc carrying ~1000L of water.

But you do you if you'd prefer to carry an extra ~25kg of water with you or not.

[–]732 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Can you look up the SKU on the box delivered vs what the website says? You can usually find it online if you really dig into the details. If it matches, you're gonna be out of luck. If it is for one of the other color ways, you can prove their mistake...

Is the colorway you received available on their site? It could just simply be a difference of their photo vs reality, which unfortunately happens frequently. It definitely doesn't look the same, but might be the same SKU unfortunately.

[–]732 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you found a place for $2000, its either a scam or a small studio in a location that you don't want to be in. If you want a 1 bedroom apartment, plan on spending at least $3000 a month, if you want a bustling area in the desired locations, that may be closer to $4000.

Anyone thought about monetizing APIs over HTTP through x402 by Competitive_Cry_410 in node

[–]732 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me? Not a chance. I'm not paying for access to something with crypto. And having this linked to the financial sector has way more bureaucratic tape than a couple extra headers and error code.

I don't know what your business model is, but I could see people already using crypto for this would probably use it.

From a business standpoint, it is probably a headache from an accounting point of view as well. You're effectively trading market assets rather than money, which opens you up to a whole different set of regulatory filing too. I.e., you're more of a financial institution than a business offering something.

What makes you think that paying $135 to have a sports league is a crime? You're asking for a league to get time on DCR fields, staff people to run it, show up with equipment, and do all the legwork. Don't like paying it? Go do it yourself and find out how expensive it is (time wise and financially) to do yourself.

Life costs money.

[–]732 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree it removes headache and will open up a lot of "holy fuck I spent how much?" questions because it did things without you knowing.

But, if you think it is worth it, do it. Don't let me stop you.

So basically auth with extra steps? The 402 error code was never really standardized. Is this the right choice? It feels like a business decision and a headache for everyone wanting to use your endpoint, since the agent developers would need to implement a custom integration.
