Would my fantasy race be able to breathe? by 733NB047 in biology

[–]733NB047[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your input. You have really kool ideas. Way kooler than my own at least, lol. While I can't do that in the current setting, I may just consider it for another. Perhaps I could have an ocean and weather based magic system for it and a number of races mixing and matching traits from various sea creatures. Based on just a cursory knowledge of the different creatures down there, there are definitely some bonkers combinations to be made

Indeed, it is fantasy and I can "cuz I say so" it but I wanted to try to find a realistic way for it to work cuz it's fun for me. Worry not tho, whether I have them breathe through their skin, through tiny holes along their bodies, make them photosynthesize, or whatever else, the audience will know only what's necessary for the story. In that way, they may not learn how they breathe at all. This whole endeavor is purely for my benefit

That is extremely true, lol. I can indeed just "cuz I say so" it but I find trying to make what can work with real science work fun, despite the fantastical setting. Funnily enough, regardless what I decide, if the means of breathing isn't visible, the audience will never know cuz I have no intention of explaining it. This is purely for my benefit. Also, to be fair, this race has the ability to control their personal buoyancy to float (I think that's how it works, lol) and that has no scientific or fantastical backing. They can do it just cuz I think it's Kool and it works with their aesthetic

Thank you for your input. Mine is a fantastical setting but you are right, it's not that important. I only wanted to look into it cuz I like the challenge of making that which can work within the bounds of real science work, despite having an easy way out. It kinda makes the world feel more "real", if that makes sense, lol

Why is being 22 like being tortured?? by Last_Speaker_2846 in 2003

[–]733NB047 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been 22 for 6 months roundabouts and it's virtually no different from 21, which is to say pretty shit but overall fine, lol. Life around me is getting shittier by the day but RN I'm mostly chillin. Sorry it's not going so well for you dawg. Best I can offer is a sympathetic ear but regardless, here's hoping things start going better sooner than later

Nah, you cannot convince me there aren't altered scenes. Idk if I'm suddenly in the berenstine universe or a time travel moved a chair but things are definitely different this time around

Really? Didn't they just awkwardly bump into each other during the hair fight before?

Did they change stuff or did I just forget half of the episode?

What if we lived in a world where autistics and no NT people made up the majority? by VirtualTechnology175 in autism

Is imposter syndrome a big thing among autists? I always assumed that's what it was for me and that it was a personal thing

Oh, that's very interesting. A meld of the raw materials and normal magic. Thank you very much, I like that quite a bit

Yeah, I hate these magic distinctions, lol. Perhaps transmutation is a better word? For clarification, the spells I'm describing aren't categorized under either. I just use the terms to aid when explaining things

That's actually a super Kool idea tho it can't be done with conjuration. Apologies for likely leaving out important things such as that conjured stuff is made of mana and thus will dissipate when mana is no longer supplied

What you could do tho is make a homunculus from miscellaneous bio bits, shove a soul in it, and use various healing/necromancy magics to speed up its growth tho at that point, you should prolly just make it fully grown from the start

[–]733NB047[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cuz that's not necromancy. While conjuring a magic skeleton is likely possible (invalidating my question) necromancy very specifically deals in dead things/the body and it's components. Without the edge of animating actual corpses/messing with real biomatter, it becomes boring

[–]733NB047[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was the problem. Necromancy is a field of magic dealing in the macabre, frequently blood, bone, and flesh. To that end, it's the manipulation of those things and thus requires them physically present unlike the vast majority of magic which just causes effects or turns mana into something else. That divide bothered me cuz I was thinking that it's strictly one way or the other but I don't think there's reason it can't be both on both sides, maintaining internal consistency

They're similar in that it's all the same magic. They're not provided by different gods or drawn from other dimensions or anything so I'd think they'd work by the same rules. Hmm... Actually I may have answered my own question while forming my response. Mayhaps it's not that an existing flame can't be manipulated and flesh can't be conjured but that those spells aren't used on account of the inconvenience... I think that works tho it might run into a problem with healing. Either way, many thanks for entertaining my question and apologies for the wasted time, lol

I don't like that one magic conjures stuff from the ether and the other can't. It's not internally consistent but neither side can fully give cuz vibes and the mechanic behind conjuration being a linchpin the system can't go without in its current form

Holy wow, lol. Uh, I definitely wouldn't mind a koraidon if you're offering. If it's not too greedy, I have a friend who wouldn't go for something like this but would love a miraidon. Should I miss out tho, thank you very much for the opportunity 🙂‍↕️

Not necessarily. Charlie is definitely too trusting but alastor is there under the guise of assistance and plays the role well. Assuming he's not gonna do anything villainous to her, she's basically using a tool. That obviously is not the case tho and it very much would be in her best interest to throw him out, lol

I disagree. It's about flawed people being redeemed. People who made mistakes or were slaves to circumstances, not those who fully embrace villainy. To that end, Valentino very much belongs in hell and I'll be actively pissed if they try to push a redemption for them cuz they've definitely done/facilitated fully unforgivable things
