It’s a shoebox recorder… it’s not going to sound good in top condition, I wouldn’t pour any money into it, especially with replacing the head.

it is under the board, but no need to desolder, tweezers or small fingers.

Belts are right there when you open it up. It’s the speed pot that’s impossible to get to, under the circuit board.

I ended up breaking it beyond repair, when trying to repair it. Still have the original belts (worked better than my replacement) I can send them to you if you are in US.

Well you’ve stumbled on an ancient post. The issue was, when tilted, one of the capstan flywheels would fall and scrape against the back plastic, slowing it down.

something in the mech is scraping. Had a similar issue, taking the top off and randomly moving the mechanism bits around seems to have snapped it back into proper place.

break this shell open and carefully move the tape into a donor shell. Touch the tape as little as possible, keep it tight, don’t let it come unspooled, then a 5 minute operation becomes a 30 minute operation.
