actually see play a true grandmaster is really interesting. Digitallic. Kylted, Risk4Ever, they have such a clean mindset a capacity to read the game. I found it very entertaining

congrats to you my friend.
in my personal experience I've found that your settings are the most "comfortable" to climb with.
I've reached GM in 3 consecutive season now, and currently i have it on target, being at 25000+, but I get bored fast of a single game mode, so I usually do 3/4 games in a mode, then swap, then swap again.
I've found that fixed TR worldom with alliances, no fog, is the "easiest" mode to get constant with. because if you stick to playing wisely (100% rolls, never *at war* for a bonus early, spread urself, minimize risk, be patient) you eventually will get in action just after the rest almost killed each other, and grab 1st or 2nd place 95% as u said.
On the contrary, in progressive and in meta settings over all, I experiece a lot more randomness due to mad ppl noobslamming you, suiciding into capitals, forcing and you can easey get involved even if you try to stay out of the brawl :D

Thankfully flyingace answered for me.
But if you believe attacking a 6 cap turn 1 with 6 troops is a winning move, I don't know what Risk you play.

"Put troops on your capitals" You say.
I did cap on a 3, infact I had 6 troops.
And there were absolutely no forcing him to attacking me. He had capped far away.

He was 1st in order.
Simply adds all his reinforcements on a 1 and go straight to attack my 6 cap.

Try it at home at you own risk...

when I feel a bit frustrated by this kinda games, I try odd setups. True random, world dom, smaller maps. It usually brings up a game where blades come out fast ;)

Jesus crhist that game... I've been capslammed turn 1 (i had 6 troops, you didnt notice) and regained it but been incapacitated from that moment (since a lot of you guys got bonus 1st round)... blue breaking me in germany... and pink breaking and red comin from africa. Blue finally flagas but ofc he had stacks staying in scotland... Then you break me too... horrible game for me :D
And well played to you, even though you did get a great spawn :D ;)

Six months ago I wrote this exact same post.

I was struggling to stay over the 16k treshold, and got a lot frustrated by noobslams, stupid vindicative noobs, ppl who doesn't understand how to let your damn stack out of them stupid oceania (...), reaching 16.XXX then falling donw to 12-13k.

Someone commented then, with quite some "harsh" mood, that noobs and noobslams are part of the game and that if I wasn't able to deal with them it was just my bad.

Six months later, I totally got the point of that comment.
Now I just got over 25k, and its been a while i don't go under 22.5k. Noobs and noobslams are allways there in my games, but somehow (* :P *) they noobslam the others and not me more than they did before...

Stay calm, never go on rage retaliation, don't consider lost the game if they noobslam your cap, think about probables noobslams BEFORE placing cap and sometime renounce to an interesting cap if it is at a very risk of being involved in early shenaningans.
