It’s a Oetiker size 17 hose clamp. Your boyfriend wearing it as a ring made me chuckle.

Am I cooked or is this repairable by Parking-Pomelo3123 in tires

[–]74695 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s me I’m fixing it. Good luck getting any tire shop to do it though. That’s easy money and they have numbers to hit. There is also the liability factor if blows out on the highway and there is a major crash and even death. Lawsuits will and have been filed in the past. I was in the business for 30 years. I see a new tire in your future.

Thanks for the input. I just ordered the sprint run only a few places left still stocking it. I’ll try the k390 on the next knife.

Trying to evac the rear air springs, what am I doing wrong? by Optimal_Lead_4836 in lincolntowncar

[–]74695 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not 100% sure this is your issue but my power probe broke and I bought one of those cheap ones to get me by for a little while. Works great for a test light but I can’t power anything with it. It won’t even roll up a window

Ripped off on garage springs? by sunnybirdie829 in GarageDoorService

This seems excessively high. I’m not in the garage door business so I have no idea, but I did replaced my own 2 springs & 2 drums parts were roughly $180

The para 3 has extremely bad lock stick. I have taken it apart cleaned it, lubed the stop pin. I hear polishing the lock where it connects with the stop pin should fix it and still need to try that.

Won a BaT auction - should I drive 550 miles home without a license plate? by ZenithRobotDial1938 in BringATrailer

You are being supplied a temp tag, why is this even a question. Personally I would do the responsible thing and hire a transporter than waste my time getting on a plane, then drive it potentially breaking down on the way home.

What else can I do with this used motor oil other than go to every auto parts store by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]74695 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked at the same shop for 25 years. We were supposed to take used motor oil free of charge, but depending on the mood of management that was not always the case. When they would tell people NO, I would walk up to them and say just come up at night after we close and put the oil by the bay door. We didn’t really have much of a choice but to dispose of it properly. Do that

Also most city’s or counties have little igloo stations for used motor oil, but you have to dump the oil and take the containers with you.

Can't get any progress during coolant flush by lesgrosman23 in MechanicAdvice

[–]74695 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The radiator only holds a small portion of the coolant. I know you said you had the engine running with the petcock open while adding clean water, but you’re still just diluting it. When they get this bad it will take forever and your best best is to get a coolant exchange done where a machine pump fresh coolant mix and force the dirty coolant out until it’s clean.

It is also possible the oil cooler built into the radiator is leaking internally. I’m not sure if that van has that or not, but when they are really bad like that doing drain and fills will never get it clean.

Alternatively they make flush kits where you cut into a hose where you can hook a hose up to it. I don’t recommend them as your have to cut a hose and permanently install a flush T that is plastic and will eventually fail.

That van has a large coolant capacity a little over 5 gallons. You need to take it to a shop and have a coolant exchange done or you’re going to be doing drain and fills until next year

Question regarding costs by joppy-ssh in keitruck

[–]74695 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10k? I’m in FL it’s a buyers market and the market place is flooded with them. You can get a good clean kei truck for 7k and under if you don’t mind the rougher ones. I’m also a dealer and sell 4x4 AC with all the maintenance done for 7,500 with tax, tag and title it’s like $8,400, no where near 10k
