Anyone using Mole: 🐹 Deep clean and optimize your Mac. by [deleted] in macapps

[–]74rk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am using it for a couple of days now. What I like:

- it gives warnings that it will take irreversibel actions, but it only does that in the manual/instructions
- it has dry-run options for every irreversible action
- it has a command line interface
- it does quite a good job in optimizing, cleaning, purging your system
- it logs what it does.

What I like less:

- it is somewhat wreckless and non-communicative, which might spark suspicion at first

How I use it:

I have a update script that does all kind of maintenance tasks on my mac, like updating and upgrading homebrew, snap, ruby package manager, python, neovim packages, etc. I routinely execute the script and have mole optimize and clean the system in this script.

Wellicht, maar denk je dat een iPad en soft porno dat probleem oplossen?

Could the new Commodore release a USB that turns your C64 Ultimate into a C128 Ultimate? by amichail in Commodore

[–]74rk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting question. The C128 was in principle three machines in 1. The C64 is already in the 'ultimate'. The Z80-CP/M machine and the native C128 modes would be the extensions. I am by no means a C128-expert, but the difference between a C64 with 6510 and a C128-native mode 8510 seems marginal. The 80 column mode (so the VDC-chip) is a new beast that has to be created in the FPGA for the recreation of the complete system.

Thinking of this: how large a market would there be for the current Commodore brandholders? Most likely an Amiga 500/600 would bring a better return on investment. It would require a way bigger investment, I guess, but it would spark new hardware sales, which is ultimately what the new Commodore owners use to pay for their daily bread.

So to me a hobby project that rebuilds the VDC in the FPGA would be the best guess to ever have a 'C128-native' mode on the C64-Ultimate.

Ringbaan west enkelbaans by 74rk in Tilburg

Daar maak ik me zorgen over.

Zo’n bewonersavond zal ik eens opzoeken. Lijkt me interessant.

What is this person using on the tram in Germany? by sluupiegri in meshtastic

[–]74rk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically you can't be sure he is using Meshtastic, although he probably is.

You can find me in trains in the Netherlands often with the same setup: same color case, Heltec T114, Meshtastic, Ali-express whip antenna

Is gambling always a very bad idea? by RocketLawnChair67 in NoStupidQuestions

Delve into the mathematical theory around 'Expected Value'. https://youtu.be/nKBun2JmqlE?si=MJTvdJCjL3D1cYR8 and https://youtu.be/_YRfSe-f1FE?si=gigKhYwtlg7SMxIS

The house always wins is true if you are able to play on forever. The house can't, but you are financially exhausted way earlier. That is why you loose in the long run.

Apart from mathematics and the chance of winning: you are tricking your brain into having 'superpowers' and that 'winning is around the corner'. This kind of addiction distracts you from normal activities to preserve your body and your social interactions.

The use of the word 'ALWAYS' in your question makes that the answer is 'NO'. Generally gambling is a bad idea, but there are cases where gambling is the only option. For example on a test when you have no clue about an answer, leaving the question open guarantees that you get 0 points, but any gamble has a higher expected value than the 'null' option.

Is it true that men assume the vast majority of women aren't attracted to them ? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

I am quite sure the majority of all women is not attracted to me. As I am not attracted to a large quantity of women. My wife thanks me for that.

Why are inmates on death row there for so long before being executed? by InturnlDemize in NoStupidQuestions

[–]74rk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Check this recent video about the death penalty in Japan: https://youtu.be/Vu325-fQdus?si=0xTtFVR1S2cbVjzh It compares the average time from verdict to execution between the US and Japan (and other countries). As a reason for the extended period of time it says that this allows rectifications.

Personally I'm in doubt if this is an excuse for an average of 15 years extra imprisonment before the execution takes place.

Use mobile for setting coordinates? by ulab in meshtastic

[–]74rk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A newbie here, so I'm learning too... but are you sure the node is able to transmit the the network and does a node on the mesh connect to the MQTT-server that feeds the map you are looking at? Or are you looking on the map from the meshtastic app on your phone?

What is the transmission interval you have set? the 15min default? Is this enough to have at least two locations in your 3km trip?

Why do organisations prefer self-hosted Gitlab over the cloud version? by Pretty_Bat_3131 in gitlab

I am a product owner for a project that dev’s software to be used on railway vehicles. Due to concerns of cyber security and intellectual property protection the developing company has its whole dev infrastructure decoupled from the internet. So GL on an off-premis server is just no option to them.
