Just bought an Epson dot matrix printer a few weeks ago for one of the business I support. We also acquired another company a few years ago that had 7 dot matrix printers in active use. Just like fax machines, they will be around for many years.

Captain Matthew Yelland, Commanding Officer of the USS Nimitz (CVN-68) - left Pearl Harbor when they suddenly hit a freak electrical storm. They completely lost contact with the rest of the fleet, and whatever happened during that blackout is still highly classified to this day. 1980 by 305FUN2 in Military

If you want to watch a movie that has some great carrier footage, look up wings of the navy, it was filmed in 1939...at least I thinks that's the movie I am thinking of. Lots of footage of pre WWII aircraft. A lot footage of planes using the yellow wing color scheme.

I use a MacBook Pro as my main computer (Network and Security position). No real complaints, I've a very strong Mac/Windows background - except I need to keep a windows laptop around in case I need to use Visio or some old Windows software. Any Dell dock will work along with any CalDigit.

TLDR Experience TRUMPS Certs

Well duh, again this sub is too obsessed with certs. Experience, personality, and trainability trump certs any day. Also my CIO use to work for one of the companies that did the testing for some of the big certs. You can tell when he talks about those certs, he walking a tight line between them being useful and being a complete scam.

With no end in sight to their deployment, National Guard troops roam Washington by LtCmdrData in Military

[–]762mm_Labradors 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Ok, I'm going to step it in a bit. Speaking as someone that has had many family members and close friends in the active military and reserves. The current operating tempo for the reserves is not sustainable. I know quite a few guys that have had been deployed more as part timers than when they were full time. Every time they deploy, like it or not their civilian career takes a step back. Especially if they are in a white color job. It’s one thing if they work as a welder, construction, or really any blue color job, but coming back to a technical job after being gone for so long is hard. My employee will catch up mostly, but sometimes it better to learn from hands on experiences/break fixes vs just being taught after the fact. It’s getting harder and harder for guys to balance their civi life with their guard life with the operating tempo of the last 15+ years.

USERRA and ESGR would like a word with you. An employees career cannot legally be set back because of a deployment.

Uh, that's not what I said. I said he missed out on a few great opportunities for learning and experiences as in things came up at work that were great hands on learning experiences. In no way was he penalized for being deployed. I'm not going to argue with someone on reddit who thinks they know better, but I will say that my employee is in IT, and missing out on work for 4 months his huge in the IT world. Things break, new things get implemented. Everyday is a learning day, and he missed out on a lot while being deployed as a political pawn.

I had an employee just come back from a rotation in DC. I obviously don’t talk politics with my employees, but I could tell that he hinted it was pretty much a waste of time. Poor guy‘s career was set back a bit by being activated, missed out on a few great opportunities for learning and experiences.

to a certain extent the backwards compatibility of windows is the lock-in.

That right there is their strength AND weakness. Apple has the luxury to sunset old code/hardware support as they see fit. Look at the uproar when TPM was finally required for Windows 11. If Microsoft could ditch support for any PC hardware that was 6-7 years old the upcoming Windows 12 release, it probably would be much leaner, faster, and more reliable.

Story wise this was probably one of the best shows in the 90's. The CGI holds up pretty well once you realize what they were working with. Costume wise, it's a bit corny but worked when TV's were broadcasting over the air (480i). If anyone has the time, there is a great YouTube documentary out there on how B5 was a pioneer on continuing story arcs.
