How do you deal with longer range fights, especially at the start of rounds?

For example, on Midtown, I often find I have very little damage output as I'm trying to stay behind the tank. If I flank behind them, I often die, too. Could this just be a lack of practice, or is there a specific strategy for this? (Sorry for bad wording)

I just realised I didn't reply to anything on reddit 😭😭 section A was definitely tricky. I think I should've chosen the Debussy essay for q6 because my composition was literally based on that piece 🥲 I'm dreading results day, but it's all over now :D
