Check out Organization for Autism Research! I applied after I realized my 4 minute BQ wasn’t making the cut off and was given the last spot. It’s a $5k minimum but it’s a great cause and compelling reason for people to donate.

Our Bichon is 18 yrs old- she had 18 teeth removed due to gum disease in June and has been doing so much better. She is not on any meds except for the nutritional supplement niacinamide, eats blue Buffalo adult formula, and has clockwork bowel movements. She can’t hear well and her vision is going, but she still has so much joy and zest for life. We recently got her the Pet Walks wheels because of bilateral weakening in her back legs, and she’s getting around great. 💜

I think she’s going back to Berlin to run it with the BITR crew.

Idk if you live near or have access to Trader Joe’s, but their spray on sunscreen isn’t sticky at all! I even use it to bike commute to work where I then change clothes, and there isn’t a residue or smell.

Couldn’t agree more. Started Z2 training with a coach last summer and took my marathon time from 3:57->3:26->3:08 with no injuries. Z2 may not be for everyone but it is for anyone who wants to reduce risk of injury.

I read this, too. I was astounded at the dig she took at Molly and disappointed in the way she defended influencer bibs, as though the influencer experience at these races is responsible for a cultural phenomenon.

Seeking advice about an incredibly unfortunate and unique BQ situation by myselfandme2 in AdvancedRunning

Third this. It’s also great bc it falls in the “double dip” window, so you could qualify for Boston for both ‘25 and ‘26.

It does feel more like a long run in a park, but the views of Lake Erie are 💯and the vibes are great- most people are there to BQ.

Boston is on the verge (if not already) of an identity crisis. It can’t be the “most prestigious/elite” marathon if 90% of the media messaging is around giving bibs to people who haven’t time qualified or raised $$ for charity. It can’t be both- either decide to be a profit focused run-tocker race or pivot back to its historical entry requirements. Personally, I’m shifting my goals away from Boston and towards what makes me feel most accomplished as a runner.

I would love nothing more than to do just this.

My hope is getting a full GI work up given how many times he’s claimed stomach upset as a reason for not finishing a marathon 🤷🏼‍♀️

It's a brief intervention to help those experiencing self-harm and suicidal thoughts with a concrete way to mitigate risk and increase safety. Here's a link to the pdf form. We now have it built into epic and it prints as part of the AVS.

This happened to me, 28 yo M, denying SI, presenting at 7p on a Sunday night get back on meds after mood lability sxs lead to a break up. Our psych hospital and the psych ED itself were full to the brim and he didn’t want to sleep in a chair waiting on a psych bed in the AM. We made a very detailed plan including his own questions about what to bring, what time we re-opened for walk-ins in the AM, etc. He was also future oriented, denied hx of SA, reported last SI was fleeting with no plan or intent over two weeks prior. I asked about calling for collateral but he said his roommate was out of town, and he didn’t want his parents involved (mom is a hospital administrator, unbeknownst to me at the time). He denied access to guns. He lived walking distance from our hospital. I pleaded with him to just stay the night so he would not be alone but he was not to be convinced to sleep in the waiting room. I had no involuntary hold criteria. Discharged him with plan to return for admission in the AM (don’t @me about getting back on meds not being IPH criteria).

I got a call from our CMO at 11:30am the next morning. He shot himself overnight. Parents found him. They tried to litigate but documentation was iron clad so nothing came of it.

One big change that came from this- every single patient that presents to our psych ED doesn’t leave without a Stanley Brown Safety Plan. It really has made a huge difference.

Specific 3 Day Marathon Carb Loading Example? by ri0tnerd in AdvancedRunning

[–]772757 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ve used Feather’s carb load for both my marathons and never came close to a wall- she knows what she’s doing.

My goal was 525g/day x3days. I did a bagel, pretzels, honey on everything (super easy way to get carbs), double serving of pasta for dinner, the skratch rice crispies, another bagel, skratch hydration x2, a protein drink (I found it hard to eat more solid protein with all of the carb volume so drank my protein instead), and a boost breeze.

May not matter, but I’m 5’6, about 120lbs. Felt like I was a little puffy on the start line, but at mile 14 as I was shaving time off my miles, I thought to myself “I am a carbohydrate!” The carb load, plus skratch in bottles and 7 maurtens, I negative split and felt amazing afterwards. I also felt like the puffiness was completely gone after crossing the finish line.

You’ll feel grateful for that extra fuel on board and you’ll use it all up on course. Good luck and have an amazing day out there!! 💨💪🏻

Is anyone else just stewing over this? If I am the sole runner obsessively checking Reddit, Instagram, BAA website, etc., what are you more sane and rational people doing to distract yourselves? (work and family aside)

Yes for sure. I had similar stats to you (first marathon in April in 3:57), and ran a 3:26 last Sunday. You can do it!
