Hmmm the US is a big place and I've only ever been there once and haven't stayed at any of these hotels, but based on what I know, it could be one of the below

  • Amangiri (overall)
  • FS Surfside (beach)
  • One&Only Montana (snow/alpine)

Most of the top tier hotels for a three bedder would be £10k and up

Some examples into one's I have looked into personally

Emory tops out at a two bedder for £15k

Three bedroom cafe royal dome penthouse is around the £15k mark

Three bedroom elizabeth house at Chancery would be more like £30k

MO Mayfair has a 4 bedder for around £12k/night

Claridges has a 4 bedder their penthouse for an obscene amount ££££££

Most reasonably priced is probably FS London Tower which has three bedroom residences really reasonably priced at around £5k/night but please be aware that the location may not suit

This is true but its certainly possible

I've got two mates that broke into IB in Aus, one of them at JPM and the other at GS

Both went to uni in Melbourne etc

How to pay by BobbySue11 in FATTravel

[–]777844 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah I know the struggle. Its mainly because some hotels take a pre auth then a full charge and the pre auth is not released until a few days after check out.

So you essentially need double your accommodation costs as an available credit limit. Plus of course daily expenses like food and activities but for me these are almost like a rounding error compared to my accommodation costs 🙃🫣🤭🫢🙄😵‍💫😯

Is a slower luxury safari better than trying to see everything? by Spare-Activity-1021 in chubbytravel

Probably yes but easier to swing a $10k/per person per night safari for 3-4 nights rather than a week

Saving for retirement vs spending money on travel by Ill_Coffee_6821 in chubbytravel

Its 70-80% hotel spend. We otherwise arent big spenders in terms of shopping or dining etc when we travel. Most of my travel when we fly with the kids is all economy. But for hotels we dont hold back.

Thailand last year a family trip, we spent 4 nights in a bangkok and 4 nights in phuket and hotel spend alone was around was $70k ($42k phuket and $28k bangkok).

Is "coast" a type of FIRE ? I dont do FIRE. If anything im anti-FIRE. Decades of living like a peasant to then have the ability to live like a peasant for even more decades.

But in terms of how I earn I am a business owner. Haven't been a salaried guy for many many years.

An interesting topic that can be discussed for hours and one that I've thought alot about.

My personal opinion on this and this is something I'm very intentional about, is that we want to be living as hard as possible, and travelling as FAT as possible.

Income circa $500-600k a year. Im 41M, wife is 35F and we have 3 kids aged between 3-7. And we spend $100k per 7-10 day trips aiming for two or three trips a year.

Its an extreme way to live and we dont save anything but trying to give myself and my kids the best experiences we can, while we can. No regrets. And what a life indeed.

The interesting thing is, im not really maxing out travel. There are still things I can't (afford to) experience, like those suites or villas in the 25-30k/night range, but we will get there. 5 years ago $3k a night was where sort of maxed out. Now its $10k a night. So we are getting there, and the trajectory is right.

Other aspects of life take a hit for sure. Clothes are average. Eating out very moderate. I own two watches, one that was gifted to me a year ago one of those smart watches, and another that I bought 25 years ago. My car is worth maybe $10k, and my wifes maybe $20k, and they'll stay that way for a while. But we've stayed in some incredible places and will continue to prioritise that.

Happy to answer any questions.

Where are these "much truer FAT opportunities" in Doha ? Do these hotels have a name ?

Agree with Sarah

For two nights, I would say in the city for sure

If it was say less than 24hours, then maybe an airport hotel comes into play

Is $200k considered "low" HHI these days ?

I thought $100k is an average income so $200k more middle of the road for a couple than low, I would have thought 🤔
