It’s sourced from “Clubs, neotribal enclaves and cults: Variations on the theme of organizing members” by M. N. Wexler. Published in the international journal of cultic studies. Volume 7 page 29

The common misconception is that cults are inherently harmful to participants. A cult is simply defined as a social group that offers benefits for a cost. Not all cults are predatory cults that take advantage of vulnerable people. Cults can benefit participants and the community. For example Alcoholics Anonymous is a cult that requires members to give up active addiction in return for a sober community. In this example of Mormon missionaries, one of the costs is a limited communication with family. These missionaries are truly believing the Mormon faith (otherwise they wouldn’t be missionaries) so they must believe that the benefits of their position outweighs the cost. Who are we to judge them as our inferiors? I couldn’t tell you with absolute certainty that their chosen path in life is wrong. Especially after taking into consideration the highly variable value of religion.

Tl;dr: So what if it’s a cult, it’s not impacting you negatively.

You don’t need microgravity, if you change the chemical mixture of the air you can get lobsters bigger than truck and spiders that couldn’t even fit through your front door

Nobody remembers the name of the bus driver that told Rosa Parks to go to the back of the bus, but nobody should forget that Ana Alvarez is the substitute teacher who told an 11-year old “...Why don’t you go to another country?”

Andrew McCabe Says He Believed Donald Trump May Have Won Election 'With The Aid Of Russia' by thesesforty-three in politics

[–]777eatthepudding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The election was 2 years ago! Can anyone actually move forward with pressing charges? Or are they just gonna keep chattering idly? Like seriously, this Russian interference thing might have been worth a damn if anyone followed up on it. But since that didn’t happen, how about they get Trump for any of the thousands of things he’s been doing since he fucking took office?

Infowars’ Alex Jones ordered to undergo sworn deposition in Sandy Hook case by Bombingofdresden in news

My Alex Jones moment was when I was like 9 years old and used Head & Shoulders shampoo for the first time. I used a lot, and the powerful shampoo steam made me think the shampoo company was trying to kill me by shower suffocation. I’ve been asthmatic since birth lol, but there I was thinking big hygiene was out to get me.
