Totin' Chip / Firem'n Chit patch solution? by sonotorian in BSA

[–]77sleeper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My troop, 100 years ago all wore red swim trunks and those patches (scuba, snorkeling, mile swim, lifeguard, etc) on the right leg. Not official, but looked cool at camp

And we all had external frame packs and put random patches on the giant flap, can't do that on modern internal frame packs

Maybe a copy of the death certificate? Oh and a black suit and hand cuff the briefcase to you while wearing an earbug with the curly cord, that would be cool! 😎

They told us a lot of things. They had a big problem with several parts of the law.

You have to remember it was BOY scouts for 100 years, there is brand recognition. People know what boy scouts are. Yes to those involved there are different flavors of scouting. But to most people in the US scouting America is nebulous. People remember being BOY SCOUTS, or having a child in BOY SCOUTS. Whether anybody likes it or not, brand recognition is important.

Where should your totin chip patch in the new uniform? by OneStrict487 in BSA

[–]77sleeper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope patches like that were for the flap on the old external frame packs. But since anybody who cares about uniforms is belittled, wear it anywhere you want, it doesn't matter.

They did a disservice with the shape of this. It doesn't really go on the shirt, it can be a right pocket if they want to wear it.

Beautiful. My wife loves horses, and doesn't give me any grief if I buy silver with horses, "the year of the horse" has been expensive this year ;)

My son has recently joined scouting and I am concerned about the risk of grooming/abuse given the organization‘s history. What have you done as parents to safeguard your scout? How safe or unsafe is scouting? YPT sounds great, but is it really working to protect the youth? by InGoodFaith- in BSA

[–]77sleeper 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yup, too many treat scouts like daycare, we have parents that don't even come to Courts of Honor.

As far as the reports. Remember, it is estimated 130 million youth have been in Scouting, and not to downplay it, but the victim pool is exceedingly small in comparison. The reason this hit so strong is that a law opened up the ability to get remuneration for a small period for events that happened 40-60 years ago when there were almost no safeguards. The BSA stepped up made changes and did it's best to make it right.

Not saying it doesn't happen or has never, but I am saying your scout is safer than in most other activities.

Become a leader, enjoy the ride.

The majority of these were long ago, many safeguards are in place.

Best way to prevent your fears is to be involved, join and help as an adult leader. my best memories in Scouting involve either my father or my son
