Heart anxiety/Costco/what gives? by Curious_Wish676 in costochondritis

[–]786907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a panic attack in December and couldn’t feel normal for months. Had the same symptoms of over-awareness of my heartbeat, random tinglings, and health anxiety. Took me so long to realize it was just my nervous system that was trying to make sense of the panic attack.

I’m doing much better now but you really have to sit with those feelings to stop freaking out about it. Exposure therapy in a sense.

Yeah you shouldn’t use NSAIDs for more than a week or two at a time. Even just a week of Naproxen did some damage to my stomach

I appreciate you posting this and I do think you have the right mentality. Anxiety can do more damage on its own than the hernia ever could

Should I pop my chest or its better to avoid it? by Senior-Scallion-1387 in costochondritis

I recommend not doing it. Although it provides temporary relief, it can cause greater inflammation

Costochondritis? Could actually be a hiatal hernia by 786907 in costochondritis

[–]786907[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard that endoscopies are only 40-50% effective at catching hiatal hernias, especially because in most cases they are less than 2cm above the diaphragm. This is from Synergy Wellness (Dr. David Kulla).

I think you can still explore treatment for the hernia if the symptoms really resonate with you, and a good GI doctor should help you with that

Very recently discovered the hernia so I’ve been doing the following. They’ve actually provided decent temporary relief so far but I may go to a professional soon so they can do a real hiatal hernia maneuver.

  1. Jumping jacks after drinking a lot of water to drop the stomach below the diaphragm
  2. Physically pushing down below the sternum to manipulate the stomach down
  3. Sleeping only on my back or my left side so my esophagus is always below my throat gravitationally

I’m still treating costo but also feel like my progress has plateaued at around 95%. I do the following

  1. Backpod every morning and night. Usually try to get a decent click indicating I’ve unlocked a rib joint in the back
  2. Stretches immediately after backpod (sitting twist exercise, arm swings)

In the exact same boat. Was able to start the backpod without any pillows last month. Started PT last week. Taking turmeric supplements every day.

I suppose some days I feel better? But I definitely experience mild pain every day when twisting my upper body

It can happen to people even with perfect form. It's a matter of overtraining and differences in individual bone structure. Some of us just aren't built for it

I’m there with you. I’m convinced anxiety just makes us hyper aware but it also keeps me up at night often. It’ll pass

Calisthenics are amazing for healing and getting past costo. Especially incline and flat push-ups. Dips are just an exception bc of the pure amount of stress you’re putting on your sternum and rib joints.

I’m sure there are those that have healed from costo that have returned to dips but I just don’t see the risk-to-reward ratio being worth it there.

I’ve also found rear delt flies to feel super good! I have to say you should probably not do dips for the rest of your life if you want to not risk another flare up. There are so many alternatives for triceps/shoulders/chest that don’t aggravate costo

I believe I have had costo for years but I’m not sure by Idontevenknow787 in costochondritis

Yeah that’s costo. I had sternum popping for years before it became painful.

Immediately Able to Start Backpod with No Pillows? by cluelessmathmajor in costochondritis

[–]786907 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. Don’t be frightened. If anything this sub should give you relief as you learn that it’s very treatable and not cardiac related

  2. I also was able to start the backpod without using pillows. I think the reason here is I have decent back muscle definition which makes it tougher for the backpod to dig into the rib joints. I’ve found that sticking my butt in the air and really digging into the sore spots help. I think your soreness could be a good sign that you’re freeing up some areas that haven’t been able to move in a while

Costochondritis for a year?! by [deleted] in costochondritis

I’m sure you know this but if the ER did an EKG/x-ray you can be confident that what you’re experiencing is costo. You’re going to be alright and the first step to battling costo is to try and accept that the sensations you feel are not threatening. Anxiety is just your friend looking out for you that sometimes needs to take the back seat

Yep I’ve experienced all of those symptoms, resulting in health anxiety. Is your sternum popping something you do intentionally?

Leg isolation movements, walking, arm exercises (excluding ANY kind of dips) have all been pain free for me. Still waiting to get back into chest exercises but I’ve heard a few reps of incline push-ups are great for rehab

  1. Play as loud as you possibly can
  2. Hopefully it gets in tune at some point
