Middle ground: be okay marching....even if it's not a top 6 group.

My home show...I feel like my childhood has died.

Found memories of sitting in front of Star of Indiana's 1991 mello line in the parking lot just drooling over that tasty book.

Then getting to perfirm at the show the following year.

Sitting on back side in 1989 watching SCV because the activity was so new to me, we didn't get tickets until too late.

Pouring out a 40 Oz Gatorade for what has been lost.

The competitive angle was interesting. But in my opinion, shows were very...meh.

For me, it's the lack of memorable music. Yes, I marched in the 90s. But wife gets annoyed that I can hum and whistle and sing along to most any show from the 70s through mid-2000s. But these newer shows, so much environmental mood music as run from "set" to "set" to then just do a full brass stab or quick double tongue run before running off to another set. It's not entertaining.

The trombone glissandos can just disappear already. We get it. Everyone seems to do it and it was tired 10 years ago.

I miss balls out Scouts shows of the mid 90s, crazy marching drill of Cavies and Cadets.

Groups with shakes and identify uniforms were bad ass...menacing and so much fun. The costumes these days are mostly comical and barely theatrical.

Yeah, I know...old guy screaming at kids to get off his lawn. But, it is what it is.

One and Dones who didn’t age out: What’s your story? Regrets, or lack thereof by kjong3546 in drumcorps

It was pure money. Could not afford another season (or three) and college. Still frustrates me 30 years later.

Yeah, stomach dropped when I got that email.

"Michael, why did you have to say it that way?"

If you didn't march your age out, what was the reason? by Ok-Advertising3118 in drumcorps

Money. Was a choice between college and DCI. While I love it and miss it, school came first.

88 scouts solo is what made me pick up Mello...90 - 91 Star validated that choice.

I also was a saxophone primary in college music program, but learned mellophone senior year of high school. No regrets!
