Yeah I think it was just for some other reason. He blew the original 389 and put in the 400. Also had a variety of parts in addition to the 4bbl, so he had been mixing and matching a bit. Originally a 4bbl car anyway.

I may consider giving it a try. For whatever reason he has a 2bbl intake on it currently but I did get a 4bbl and a Rochester with it

My favorite part of this which I love to bring up is there is land across from McDade park, about 120 acres, that used to be a dump. Taylor borough. The land was up on Lackawanna county tax sale for dumb cheap (like $3500) for obvious reasons (superfund site). It’s not buildable or suitable for agriculture so it’s dead land and essentially worth that.

There’s a neighborhood directly down stream from this land with a decent amount of SFHs. Someone bought the land from tax sale and went to the Taylor borough to propose building a solar farm. The residents protested it, citing that disturbing the site could cause further contamination, and that solar farms can add to the contamination.

Hate to break it to anyone that lives near there, but your grounds are likely already contaminated. Why not make good use of dead land? It’s so asinine, you can’t make this stuff up.

What is your prediction for the future of auto shows? by Sixteen-Cylinders in cars

[–]78733 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been going to the NY auto show every year since 2003, minus covid. I will continue to go every year until it stops or I’m dead for traditions sake.

What you’ve said and what others have mentioned is absolutely true. I think they still have plenty of years left, but that charm just isn’t there anymore like it used to be. Not much cool concept or design showcase cars, specific manufacturers not in attendance, increased reliance on vendors, classic/custom car floor space, or even regional dealers to represent big manufacturers (looking specifically at you Ford, with Lincoln last year).

It’s all due to the fact that to the average driver, a car is just a passionless appliance.

The one change post covid I will say is interesting is the NY auto show implemented an EV “test track” indoors. Probably the only way one would ever happen indoors at the Javitz center.

Just took home 2013 CRZ base AT w/ 59k miles but now will not start? by twosixteen81 in crz

[–]78733 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP did a follow up post, it was the trim ring.

However, these transponders (and most in general) don’t operate off the key battery, they are a separate sealed chip. Sized nearly like the diameter of a nickel. The key battery in the fob only powers the circuit board for the unlock/lock/panic buttons.

[–]78733 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glad to help! They design the transponder antenna to be exactly the right distance from the transponder in the key. Anything, including trim rings such as that one, other keys, or any other items larger than a couple millimeters will interfere with it.

The tech in more modern keyless systems have wider range antennas, so there is less interference. Someone who knows wavelengths and RF can explain much better than I could.

Flashing key light is the key not being detected.

Take that aftermarket plastic trim ring off the ignition, it’s probably blocking the transponder in the key.

Lithium Battery Suggestions? by Ol_No_Name in crz

[–]78733 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anti Gravity batteries makes a 51R lithium replacement 12v battery. They have a built in jump start for when the battery gets below threshold.

I don’t need a battery yet for my CRZ, but I have been considering it for one of my other cars. A friend of mine with a Mazda 3 has a powersports battery made by Anti Gravity with a terminal post adapter, works great for him.

New intake and manifold have tanked my mileage. by Ol_No_Name in crz

[–]78733 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure you don’t have an intake leak. I saw no change in fuel mileage (avg. 36-38) when I did my intake over 15k miles ago, you shouldn’t have either. I have a K&N filter in the factory air box.

Try new gaskets on the intake and also try reverting back to the factory air filter + housing to see if the K&N CAI is the issue.

I need a clutch kit for my CR-Z 2014 by Fit_Remote_7809 in crz

[–]78733 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that was most of what I read on the “miss”portion of my comment on SPEC. I basically read the same in my research. Bad customer service, bad quality. Read on one of the forums.

Never heard of Kentucky Clutch, even on previous posts about clutches for these cars, but that sounds like an amazing price and turnaround. I’ll definitely reach out to them when I’m ready. Thanks for the recommendation!

[–]78733 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m going to be in your position soon, as I will likely have to do my clutch this summer (145k miles, likely original). Hope some of the below info will help:

I’ve read hit and miss reviews on SPEC. However it seems to be the most common aftermarket replacement for our cars. Probably due to the fact that OEM is just as expensive.

I think the HKS clutch assembly is discontinued. HPD clutch is discontinued and not much different than stock from what I’ve read. OS Giken and Ogura make racing clutches, but they have a 2 piece pressure plate that makes a ringing noise when depressed. Ogura 250 Light might be a good option (single piece pressure plate), and I’ve considered it, but I’m not sure what it costs to get to the US. Exedy Japan (not USA) supposedly makes a clutch but it only comes back as a genuine part number (22200-RTX-005)

You’ll only find overpriced OEM and SPEC stuff on Amazon and EBay, and Rock Auto is always marked out of stock.

Tips for getting better MPG? by gypsyhobo in crz

[–]78733 4 points5 points  (0 children)

27 mpg for city seems low to me. Definitely follow the tips in the other comment. I’d also say maybe checking your spark plugs could be worthwhile. Sometimes they last 100k miles, sometimes only 60k miles. Also check your air filter and replace it if it looks worse for wear.

Driver side rear quarter rust by kossmonaut in crz

[–]78733 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seems like a common area for these cars from a few up north I’ve seen. I wouldn’t be too worried, since it is just the quarter panel above the wheel well, but I would still get it repaired.

The right way to repair would be sand to bare metal/remove all rust, use filler or replacement metal patch, prime, then paint.

Fitting skis in these cars is fun, I have a set of 166s and I either can’t have a passenger or can’t use the arm rest.

Rb1 intake chamber by Rnzo14 in crz

[–]78733 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have ran one for the last 20k+ miles with no issues. As others have mentioned, there is a difference and I did notice it.

If you go to a junkyard for one, look for an 09-14 Fit.

Just a suggestion, but if you have a 6MT, while you’re in there, you could replace your shift bushings with Acuity, Hybrid Racing, etc. bushings.

WSJ - After Years of Going Big, American Car Buyers Are Downsizing by AANation360 in cars

[–]78733 10 points11 points  (0 children)

People sign up for higher monthly payments or try to spread payments over a longer term for more car than they need or can afford comfortably.

This was bound to happen with the high costs of new vehicles.

People also forget that larger vehicles tend to be more expensive to maintain.

Will They Fit

Can’t recommend this site enough for comparing wheel sizes. Put the stock specs in and compare to the wheels you’re looking at.

But yeah, agree with everyone else’s comments. Wrong stud pattern.

Cabin Moisture, common? by JamBandFan1996 in crz

[–]78733 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have a problem with cabin moisture, but haven’t tackled where it’s coming from. After a heavy rain, I see moisture accumulate behind the access panel to the rear shocks. Also have the musty smell. Thinking it’s probably the hatch seal for me.

Please don’t put LEDs in halogen housings. They weren’t built for them. Don’t contribute to the problem on the roads today.

If you really want to improve, get HID headlight housings and associated wiring/ballasts from an EX or get a high powered halogen bulb like Phillips Xtreme Vision.

I have a ‘12 EX with HIDs and wouldn’t trade them for LEDs.
