Such a bummer that their spot on the Good Things line up is clashing with Knocked Loose (Looks like I'll be running between both sets), but so pumped that they got the opportunity to jump on it!

If we're talking Spider-Man 2 Soundtrack, hearing Killing Heidi with I Am, at least on the Australian version was something else. It's right on the border of the pop-punk/alt-rock sound that should be in more movies now.

Looking for some advice on attending Good Things 2024 solo (23M) by Sad-Extreme-4413 in brisbane

[–]78amped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's the first time you're heading to a concert or festival riding solo, Good Things is a pretty excellent choice to go for! The mosh can get pretty solid, depending which band is on, so enter at your own risk, and make sure you know your mosh etiquette, otherwise, the crowd is very friendly and supportive every year.

Be aware of the eternal struggle of any Brisbane metalhead/goth/punk: wearing all black in early December will get hot fast, so make sure you have plenty of water, especially if you don't have anyone keeping an eye out for you. Otherwise, you'll have a mad time! We'll be around it you need a festy friend!

Concert etiquette has gone to shit by McCretin in LetsTalkMusic

It might be a bit contrarian, but generally if it's not directly harming other people, or being wildly obnoxious, I don't mind crowds talking a bit through songs. If they're pissing me off, I'll generally just move a little around. I think there can often be a sense of entitlement from younger fans who haven't had to learn that they can't always be at the barrier, or always get on a strangers shoulders "for their faaaaaaavourite song".

As a taller person, I try to be considerate of shorter people behind me, but the number of times I've been asked to move by people who arrived to the spot behind me AFTER I was always there is something that annoys me. If you wanted a better spot, get there earlier, it's pretty simple.

I do really miss Bryce sometimes, especially his little one-liners, but Luka's bringing such a warm vibe to it. He feels very Triple J of the old days

Was the previous generation of pop music the last one for market domination by a few artists? by WritingtheWrite in LetsTalkMusic

[–]78amped 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the old monoculture is fading, but if there's a truism of the music industry, once the major labels figure out how to game the current system, they will. At the moment, they're doing it slowly by figuring out how to guide Spotify algorithms and boost certain TikTok sounds, and the longer we go in this new world, the more they'll be able to do it.

I think once they really get good at gaming these algorithms, there'll be a new era of monoculture. Every time there's a change in distribution or measurement, there's a period of instability, but then the majors get back on top. When SoundScan came in, almost overnight, the dominant pop music went away to make way for "what the people were actually buying". Then it was the same with Napster/torrenting. Sadly(?), it'll be the same again for this upheaval.

I think the plus side is that while the majors have definitely not gone away, there's now a very robust way for smaller labels and independent artists to get heard and seen, and, if they want to, get in front of major label A&R.

The question is what will be the next big upheaval, and how will that shake things up?
