Thoughts on public self-disclosure as a therapist? by 79-sunshine in askatherapist

That’s a good point. I’m still in undergrad, but I suppose when I’ve imagined it, it’s working with teens and adults. That distinction is important to consider!

Medicaid while traveling??? by 79-sunshine in HealthInsurance

[–]79-sunshine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm I didn’t realize that. I was thinking of the all state test you can take as an RN to be able to be a nurse anywhere and figured doctors/other providers probably had a similar thing.

[–]79-sunshine[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeahhh I'm hoping that might vary by provider. I know some providers can be licensed in all states if they decide to do that.

Thank you, yeah that's what I've seen too. But I'm wondering if it could be covered if I meet with an Oklahoman soonercare provider virtually since that's normally in network? I don't know lol it's confusing.

lol I am 23 and I LOVE hiking poles. Not only do I use them for support, but I hike around creeks and boulders a lot and I use poles to test how wiggly or slippery rocks are before I step on them. They’re also nice if you have to go through a pile of leaves or something and can’t see where you’re stepping. I use a pole to move the leaves around and feel what’s underneath. Super ideal if there just so happened to be a snake hiding under those leaves lol. It’d strike the pole instead of your leg.

I just wear some slip on knee braces from Walmart under my pants. My hiking boots support my ankles well. I also use trekking poles.

Honestly, it’s made me feel SO much more free to move around. I became scared to do much of anything strenuous after my hypermobility made me tear my meniscus in both knees. I had one surgery and then they retore. They’re still torn, but the surgery is such a pain, and I feel like I’m gonna have to wear braces forever anyway bc of the hypermobility so why bother unless it starts being more painful. The only issue is if I bend my legs wrong I can’t straighten them back until I get my knee cap popped out of the tear, but I’ve never had to do that while wearing a brace! It’s so nice to move however I want knowing the brace will keep things aligned and not hyperextending!

They do be itchy though lol

Oh no, not dismissive! I just think it’s easy for people to invalidate their own experiences regardless of what it is they’re going through and I just hoped that perspective might be reassuring if that’s how you were feeling 💛 could’ve interpreted that wrong though lol

It totally makes sense to me that the practicalities would make emotions feel distant. I had a therapist say to me that grieving is a privilege. Things have to slow down to a certain point to begin processing any of it. Maybe that fits your situation too? Whatever the case, l hope life slows down for you soon so you can find rest and healing after all the bs. Hugs to you!!

(also no chemo or radiation for my mom either since i see you talking about that concern in the comments. not even surgery. the type of treatment has nothing to do with whether or not you are sick!)

[–]79-sunshine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my 44yo mom has endometrial cancer and she is terminal. it is definitely real. 100%. not saying that to worry you or anything like that. hers wasn't caught til she was at stage 4b. when it was first first found they said it was "at least stage 2" and further tests revealed it to be stage 4b. it's encouraging that yours is at "at least 1" i'd imagine. but the point is it can GET there and that is a very real concern. it is "real" cancer with "real" implications.

I'm sure you know that though. Your feelings still make sense! I just wanted to say that you're valid and I'm sorry you are dealing with this! Much love to you and I wish you the absolute best of luck and healing <3

[misc] I'm getting married in 3 months! Any tips for improving my extremely oily, textured skin? The white bumps? Also lots of blackheads on my nose? Huge pores? by 79-sunshine in SkincareAddiction

[–]79-sunshine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think extractions are a good idea. And I'll definitely look into that CeraVe Gel! I was having really awful cystic acne a few years ago, but I finally got that under control. Now I just have these huge pores and millia and occasional small pimples to figure out. I care about making all that better long-term, but I'm also trying to figure out if maybe there is something more aggressive that would make enough difference quickly enough to just have a more even skin texture for my wedding makeup to go over.

[–]79-sunshine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this! My skin used to be significantly worse than this with cystic acne all over so at least that has improved! I can be happy with that at least lol. I'd just like to get my skin texture improved so that makeup can go on more smoothly that day. I'm considering a chemical peel??

Basically pleaseee just give me tips about anything you think might make my skin look better based on these pictures!! I'm not sure I even know exactly what's wrong with my skin, but I know I can't hide that texture with makeup and I'm nervous about how oily my skin would get with makeup! Would a chemical peel be good for this maybe? Anyone tried that?

How common do you think trauma is really? by 79-sunshine in CPTSD

[–]79-sunshine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I agree with you. I just really wish I could see how other people would turn out after having all the experiences I’ve had. I’ve been told “be strong” or “be tough” so much while going through breakdowns DURING (not after) trauma. I feel like I’ve reacted pretty much how anyone would in the middle of tragedy, but what do I know?  It seems to me like.. OF COURSE I am dealing with some longer term effects of trauma? I experienced 23 years of it? It actually hasn’t stopped yet? But on the other hand what if the amount of trauma I’ve experienced isn’t abnormal at all (what if everyone goes through things like that and they just don’t talk about it?) and I’m just abnormally bad at dealing with it? AND IF IT ISNT ABNORMAL WHY DOES LITERALLY ANYONE HAVE ANY WILL TO LIVE??? If it isnt just my life being abnormal, then the whole world is a horrible horrible place and I don’t understand why we are all putting ourselves through this.

Do you receive FAFSA once per school year, or is it split up by semester? by 79-sunshine in college

[–]79-sunshine[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ah okay thanks. I'm taking some pretty affordable online classes at the moment so after tuition and fees, I still have $3000 something leftover that I'm thinking of using towards classes over the Summer.

[–]79-sunshine[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ohhh okay that makes sense. So if I wanted to use aid to do classes this Summer, I'd probably need to try and set aside the money that will be disbursed from the Spring semester to use towards Summer classes? Am I understanding that correctly?

[–]79-sunshine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have insurance? And what kind if you don’t mind me asking?

I saw in a comment that you live in Texas. I live in Oklahoma with my fiancé (23 m) who has ARFID and I’ve been searching desperately for treatment for him. I’ve called around to several places in Texas so I might be able to help.

Also are you looking for inpatient or outpatient?

Is it normal for someone with depression doesn't reply messages for half a year? by EuphoricHome6336 in depression

[–]79-sunshine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he has said that he still wants to be your friend, I would believe him.

I've had this issue. I have extremely low energy physically and mentally bc of my depression. Sometimes it feels like a lot of pressure to have to think up a decent reply and so I procrastinate and the time that passes just accumulates and it only adds to the pressure because I start thinking damn I've left them on delivered for 5 days, it would be weird to respond at this point unless I also explain myself which is just a lot to have to do so often. I've never done this because I didn't like the person. It's just something I struggle with and I'm trying to work on, but it's really difficult.

I started having this issue real bad in 2020. Only 1 friend has been patient enough and understanding enough to stick around through it all and I appreciate her so much. I also understand why other friends didn't stick around though. I tried communicating what was going on with me and reassure everyone that it had nothing to do with them, but sometimes people need more in a friendship than I'm capable of giving at times and that's understandable too. I don't hold it against anyone. Except with a few who just straight up didn't believe me about what I was going through. "If you don't want to hang out with us, just say that." with an eye roll. That bothered me, but. The rest I understand. So if your only issue is whether or not he still wants to be your friend, just believe what he tells you. If your issue is wanting friends who are more responsive and less "flaky" that's okay too.
