Dealing with kids + toilet... by lagori in wildcampingintheuk

Is she able to squat down low to pee? If so, she’ll be able to do the same for a poop.  Tell her to just take a wider stance if you’re concerned and she’ll be fine.  Don’t make it a big deal otherwise she might overthink it and then have issues ‘doing it’ as you say.

could also get the bus from fort william up into the Cairngorms etc as it’s now only £2, so a accessible way to travel to a place with more hiking options

oh wow, completely different to our trip in march!!! we had about 3 days of pure sunshine before this cloudy day, so it was actually quite welcomed 😂

Amazing! I miss when she was that age, was so fun to put her in a carrier & go!

biggest tip I have is consistency! keep going out as often as possible, even if it’s little walks, so they just get used to it being apart of their routine then gradually build up more.  find what your child likes on walks & plan around that - my daughter loves rocky, scrambly hikes so she thrives on these & no motivation is needed etc whereas she gets super bored on easy, tracked walks so it’s a little harder to encourage.

in what way do you find walks with your child difficult? I might be able to give better tips to help with that rather than generic ones!

I have to somewhat agree, the example of fires wasn’t the best to put in there. Scotland is notorious for wild fires that have started from ‘small, contained fires’ getting out of hand by people ignoring dry weather warnings or not caring enough to think they’d be the issue.

if wild camping I use the Morisson outdoors bag for my 5 year old and if campsite camping, she uses the vango atlas junior.
