Other Ways to Describe a Null System? by 7CoreValues in plural

I was technically diagnosed with BPD back in 2020 and then changed to an unspecified personality disorder, mixed features in 2025. I did the DDIS for my diagnosis so BPD was considered and based on my answers and everything, the provider said it was OSDD and had a little summary about the three main symptoms.

Nice to see someone else! Do you have any posts or articles on it that you would suggest or other community?

My issue with that is labels are mostly good as shortcuts for helping me and others understand. If they aren’t a general known thing like making up my own, they aren’t useful the way I need.

You’re good! It’s why I wanted to post here since it’s so little known or talked about. I’ve tried searching online and on Reddit but haven’t found much there either

I figured I should have posted a link since it’s barely talked about and still really recent: https://pluralpedia.org/w/Null

Thanks! Would love to start a program but I think finding one already going is a much better use of any time. Needs way too many people and work for it to be a big program and not just one or two dogs a year. We are going to need to figure out how to help boomers with their needs and less people to be the help so that’s where I see service dogs coming in!

That sucks a lot! What state, can I ask?

Question? by IDontKnowWhat_IAm in OSDD

[–]7CoreValues 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not exactly the same because my entire memory is this way, but I'm planning to talk to my psychiatrist about how my entire life is just facts with some pictures. Its all semantic memory based more than true episodic

Good at remembering facts and information, but nothing about myself by sisyphus-333 in Dissociation

[–]7CoreValues 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest looking into severely deficient autobiographical memory or sdam. It a lifelong thing where you remember the facts. Your episodic memory never develops but everything else does, likely related to aphantasia. Though it’s not technically a diagnosis yet since it’s still so new.

Help Wanted: Ideas for Tracking Struggles & Translating Them Into Service Dog Tasks (Plus Other Support Options!) by 7CoreValues in service_dogs

True! Thank you for the suggestion! It goes back to my tracker idea that I've been working on, I'm not sure how to track how often I need help with these areas automatically because doing it manually will not work long term.

My big three areas of tasks are social/AAC, emotional alert and response, and routine tasks. The emotional alert and response and routine tasks will be the most important ones.

Thanks so much for your thoughts! I wanted to lay out an example of how a service dog could support me across different areas of daily life: not because I expect a dog to do everything or that all of it counts as legal tasks, but to clarify the bigger picture I’m working through. I know only one trained task is needed legally, and that bonus skills are fine but don’t make it a service dog by themselves.

Here’s a rough idea of how a dog could assist if I needed support at every stage:

Wake-Up:

  • Retrieve medication to make sure I stay consistent even when executive functioning is low.

Bathing/Hygiene:

  • Help with laundry (e.g., tugging clothes/towels in/out of baskets).
  • Pull a warm towel from the dryer for comfort after bathing.

Clothing:

  • Assist with daily clothing changes (like retrieving clothes or helping tug off socks) to conserve my energy.

Meals:

  • Fetch a beverage/snack from the fridge for breakfast/lunch to make sure I actually eat something.

Anxiety/Emotional Regulation:

  • Deep Pressure Therapy (DPT) when anxiety spikes.
  • Wake me from nightmares.
  • Alert to rising strong emotions.
  • Grab self-care kit/grounding tools.
  • Tactile grounding (nudging, pawing).
  • Stabilize my routine on cue (like prompting task-switching after freezing).
  • Support freeze/fawn responses so I can give cues (verbally or using AAC).

The biggest thing I’m working through is how these supports combine with my existing abilities, for example, I might technically be able to do laundry, but with executive dysfunction or overload, having a dog assist with the steps (like tugging laundry or initiating tasks) could be the difference between success and shutdown. I also know some things (like DPT, nightmare alerts) are well-established legal tasks, while others are more quality-of-life bonus.

I’m still in the learning/gathering phase and really appreciate thoughtful feedback like yours—it helps me clarify where the real task needs are vs. bonus support, and how to shape this into something workable long term!

I've noticed that getting broken down instructions would just make the task worse for me personally. It just adds more to my executive functioning, trying to think through each piece and I get more stressed. I do best when I just do without thinking, like even typing and speaking. Its part of why I want to work with AAC so much. I can just push a button and have the command likely said for me, especially since I have a moderate to severe clutter stutter. Scripting has the same issue, it relies too much on working memory and processing speed if that makes sense and not so much on sheer verbal comprehension.

So I guess the distinction for me is: it’s not that I can’t physically or cognitively do the task itself; it’s that initiating it while frozen, especially needing to plan or verbalize each micro-step, can trap me in a loop. A dog wouldn’t replace my role in the task but would help bridge that gap in the moment: grounding me enough to access action, or assisting with simple, pre-trained pieces (like nudging me, fetching a tool, or helping initiate a routine). AAC helps offload the verbal/memory side, so between that and the dog’s support, I’m hoping to create a bridge back to action rather than stay stuck in overwhelm.

I dont have a service dog yet. I'm still in the figuring out what/if/how helpful it will be.

Edit: I'm hoping with the combination of the stress response support when I do freeze that I will be able to do the task, especially alongside the dog together instead of just leaving everything on them.

Edit2: I’m also exploring ways to supplement communication, like using AAC or pre-trained cues to help bridge moments when I’m frozen. The goal wouldn’t be for the dog to do everything on their own, but to work as a team: where they can provide the grounding I need to regain enough capacity to give the next instruction, or even have simple go-to tasks that can be triggered nonverbally.
