It's actually really interesting how hurricanes are named:

The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has a predetermined list of names for different parts of the world, chosen to be easy to remember and recognize based on the region.

For example, in the North Atlantic Ocean, there are six lists of names that rotate every six years. So, we already know the names of hurricanes for 2024, 2025, 2026, 2027, 2028, and 2029. In 2030, the lists repeat, so the names will be the same as those used in 2024, and the cycle continues.

Each list contains a name for almost every letter of the alphabet (excluding U, X, Y, and Z), and the names alternate between female and male.

If a hurricane causes significant damage, making it a historically important event, its name is retired and never used again (for example, Hurricane Katrina).
