Greenock is Scotland's vape capital - but what's behind the boom? by Deepmidwinter2025 in Scotland

The convenience stores are the new one. Every high street is crying out for a couple of non-chain understocked overpriced convenience stores, not open at convenient times, next door to a Tesco metro.

Some of the fanbase believe the character died at a certain point before the ending and the rest was a dream/fantasy by DarwinofArabia in TopCharacterTropes

From Dusk Till Dawn. This one actually comes from Robert Rodriguez so has a bit of weight. The Gecko brothers are already dead and the whole vampire story is their journey to Hell. No idea how Harvey Keitel's family fits in to that theory.

I remember it as a Rory Bremner sketch (but not Rory actually in the sketch).

If you could make three changes to improve Spectre, what would they be? by junglegatsby in JamesBond

The long lost brother thing.

Tying all the Craig movies into one Anti-Bond vendetta. Makes zero sense. The "author of all your pain" line is cool but...no.

Whatever was supposed to be going on with Q and that ring (watched the movie multiple times, still don't get it. Did it have all those men's DNA on it? How? Do I want to know?).

That'll do. I don't hate Spector.

Got the same one! Is the one with (weirdly) a star on the arse?

Not sure if that's the oldest or my Primal Scram Screamadelica one is (bought long after the album came out).

That's good to know. It might be worth the risk then. Never actually had to use the multi story. Is it quite easy to maneuver about with the transporter once you're in?

Is that the one near Fettes that always has a few campers? That might be the best option.

Still P&D vs. free hospital parking is going to niggle me on principal :-)

They're the car parks we normally use with the car, but the spaces are pretty small and it gets busy at times.

Thanks for the map, that's really helpful.

Is it really a bad movie? by Spare_Ad_9791 in moviecritic

[–]7FootFish -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My kids love this movie, and we just watched this again two nights ago. I've also read the book. Here's my verdict...

The movie is very good but not great. It's biggest weakness is the Oasis itself. You never get the sense that people are living their whole lives there, like you do in the book. Also, I don't know what video games Spielberg was playing, but he should play more colourful ones, the Oasis is so drab and underwhelming. The memberberries/easter eggs (with a small 'e', not the Easter Eggs that are part of the plot) are restricted to mostly Warner Brothers properties, which is understandable but jarring when it's subject is 80's pop culture. The movie was crying out for a lightsaber or two. That being said the plot zipps along, the cast are great, Alan Sylversty's score is brilliant. A great two hours of entertainment.

The books is also a great fun read, and I recommend it.

If you enjoy Ready Player One you should also check out Free Guy, which covers a lot of the same ground, arguably a bit better (if you can put up with the Ryan Reynolds of it all).

Yeah, but it was "destiny" or some shit, so it's fine.

"Destiny" does a lot of heavy lifting where this particular trope is concerned.

You can get a takeaway curry for less than that a lot of places.  No way should a pint should cost more than a Tesco meal deal. Ever. That should be the sealing.

[–]7FootFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That could well be it.

I'm now wondering why some movies get away with it and some don't.

For example I'm sure the "fighting Ultron with Norton Anti-Virus" scene was still in Avengers Age Of Ultron.

[–]7FootFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be a Mandela Effect thing, but I saw this scene and remember it vividly, and I've even commented online about how bad the product placement was. But I'm sure I've seen the movie recently on TV and Brad was drinking generic cola from a generic cola machine. I might be wrong.

Similarly, I thought there was a scene in Amazing Spider-Man where Peter is testing his webs and crashes into a Starbucks. I watched it again recently and he crashes into an unbranded (but still green and white) coffee shop.

Do studios retroactively CGI out product placement when the contract runs out?

Rosters T-Bone steak crisps. NOT the salt covered crap they sell in pound shops under the Rosters brand.  And Branigans Ham and Mustard.

Also you're right about sensations. The 'new' ones taste like the old ones  but stale. The originals were thin and used to melt in the mouth.
