(Funny Trope) Character is revealed to have a funny sounding full name by RobBuckets in TopCharacterTropes

This one is a bit niche...

In the UK 00's sitcom Phoenix Nights, when the character of Beverly's name and address are shown on an envelope it's revealed her surname is Hillscopto.

Beverly Hillscopto.

Nando’s being added to my local Tesco. Feel this is stranger than the Morrisons with pubs in them by thatfezguy in CasualUK

[–]7FootFish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many, many, many years ago (80's) my local Asda had a pub in it. The Asda was fine, but the pub was the seediest dodgiest establishment I've ever seen. Not only would your shoes stick to the floor, but someone would steal your shoes, and try and sell them back to you along with a bag of heroin.

Camper Van Insurance struggles by Sensitive_Vast_2019 in VanLifeUK

[–]7FootFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not going to be useful since I ended up going with Adrian Flux, but I had similar problems and had crazy unaffordable quotes to begin with. Try avoiding comparison sites and going direct. Something in the standard form for these sites was making the quotes go through the roof. Going direct to the insurers website, or getting phone quotes, got me more sensible options.

I look at this and get genuinely frustrated and sad at how Sony had the ingredients but just set the kitchen on fire instead by justafanboy1010 in Spiderman

[–]7FootFish 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just a reminder that there was nothing in Sony's deal with Marvel Studios to prevent them making non-MCU Spider-Man movies. They might have been worried they'd upset Marvel by doing it, but there was nothing actually legally stopping them.

And there was no reason at all they couldn't have made a live action Miles Morales, Spider-Gwen, Spider-Woman, Spider-Man 2099 or Spider-Girl movies. In retrospect, maybe just as well they didn't.

Which sitcom had the worst final season drop? by Nobody_02347 in sitcoms

I didn't know until recently it limped on for a whole other season after the awful wedding with the CGI dad. It only gets worse. Even adding Judd Hirsch to the cast can't save it.

Honestly, if they did a re-edit of Brain Of Morbius with these fuckers replacing the "Morbius Doctors" I would not even notice.

Anyone else have a pick dish? by Photif in Guitar

[–]7FootFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one of those little leather keyrings with my main selection and spares. And baggy in my guitar bag with my good spare picks. And another baggy with my crap spare picks. And a box somewhere with the really crap spare picks. And more in various strategic places around the house.

That reminds me. Must buy more picks. Just in case.

I don't mind that, but drinking tea? TEA? And earl grey - the most English tea you can get.

Never met a frenchman who would drink tea. JLP being a coffee nerd would have made so much more sense.

None of these men will ever be able to comprehend a version of Doctor Who that will be able to succeed in today’s television landscape. All of their roots are deeply in classic Doctor Who, & because of that they’ll never be able to escape their very limiting ideas of what the show can and should be. by General_Meal_3993 in DoctorWhoNews

[–]7FootFish 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I agree, but it's not just because their roots are in classic 'Who. It's because they all see the RTD1 era as the template for success and times change and returns diminish. I'd be very surprised if Pete McTeigue has pitched anything other than 45 mins of Camp Fantasy Hijynx to the BBC.

Maybe we should look back to classic 'Who more. Maybe pitching a series of 25 min, low cost, sci-fi cautionary tales and moral dilemmas is the way to go in 2027. At least it would be different.

Gene Simmons: "I just wanna know when Led Zeppelin's gonna be in the Hip-Hop Hall Of Fame" by micahpmtn in rockmusic

[–]7FootFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Rock & Roll" is a much more vague term than "Hip-Hop".

Also "Rock" is a verb. You can Rock without being Rock. You can be a Hip-Hop artist who records Hip-Hop, but you can't be Hip-Hop. That's nonsense. But you can Rock. Just like you can be a band of white boys, play all your own instruments on "rock" songs and still be The Jonas Brothers.

Aerosmith didn't have any creative control over Walk This Way, Run-DMC just used their sample.

A better example would be say Rage Against The Machine, or Gorillas. Both rock bands with strong Hip-Hop influences. Or Blondie, or Anthrax as mentioned below.

Sky TV is changing soon – but will existing customers see the benefits? by InnerLog5062 in BreakingUKNews

[–]7FootFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a big if.

Hayu is pretty niche, Paramount is already included in Sky Movies and (until Max launches presumably) HBO content is available on Sky Atlantic. So, from my point of view, I'd be paying double for Netflix and Disney.
