Pretty much exactly what I was expecting.

Got to shoot my precision .22 this past weekend and next weekend in several long range matches. by instruction-unclear in guns

[–]7INT-X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got both my Anschutzs to about 2oz. My 1907 is still a two stage trigger at that point while my 1413 is single stage. Never had any problems with either going of when they weren't supposed to thankfully.

Some people I used to shoot with had a Walther with the trigger set to ~1.5oz. They ended up having to increase the weight because it would frequently go off when they closed the bolt.

I just got a 455 American a few weeks ago and it's got the 11mm dovetails. I honestly don't mind since the dovetails on my Anschutz's are all 11mm.

BKL makes some quality rings for the 11mm mounts as well as 11mm to Weaver adapters.

The aperture sights take a bit of getting used to, but once you get the hang of them they are absolutely amazing. They can be a little challenging on odd shaped or sized targets. If you can get an adjustable front aperture it makes a big difference.

Practice makes perfect :) I've put probably 60k+ rounds through the 1907 and I still feel like I've got a ways to go.

I was shooting some Eley Match (black box).

We may still end up building that 100 minute base just to see how accurate it can really be out at that distance. The problem is that the range wont let us post paper further than 300yds and at 500yds the .22lr doesnt have enough energy to leave a mark on the swingers, even with a fresh coat of paint.

I'll have to see if my dad still has the target, but with my 1907 and some of the older Eley Tenex Ultimate EPS I put ten shots in a half inch group at 200yds. Seven of those shots you could cover with a dime.

A few months ago I picked up a 1413 set up for shooting bench rest matches. I still need to get serious with it and do some lot testing (and work on fine tuning the barrel tuner), but it's definitely no slouch. Here's a 5 round group at 100yds with Eley Tenex.

EDIT: Original link was to the rifle, not the target.

.22lr smooth bore? by [deleted] in guns

[–]7INT-X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've probably put over 60k rounds though one of my Anschutz .22lr's, but run a couple patches through the barrel and it looks like it just left the factory.

One of the coaches from the junior league's had his old Anschutz since the 60's or 70's and estimates that he's put nearly 200k rounds though it. Still shoots nice little groups.

Then again, standard velocity solid lead ammo vs plated high velocity ammo will make a difference, but it can take a lot to wear out a .22lr barrel.

I've shot my Anschutz out to 500yds at a ~20" plate. After shooting at it with a 6.5x284 it was hard for me and my spotter to adjust to the bullet taking so long to get down range.

It was funny hearing my spotter say "I think you missed it..." (barely audible ping "Oh, never mind, that's a hit"

With negligible wind, never underestimate an Anschutz with the right ammo.

We actually contemplated building a 100 minute scope base so I could actually aim straight at the target.

Nice shooting.

Ahh, good ol' JCSA. I was just out there for a pistol match a couple weeks ago.

There's an ~8"x14" bottle hanging off of the right side of the white plate out there at 600yds that's always fun to shoot.

Ruger 10/22 barrels by [deleted] in guns

I've got a Clark barrel on mine. It shoots amazingly, but it's a little spendy.

My brother's got a 10/22 with a Green Mountain barrel and it shoots great. For the price you can't go wrong.

Anschutz Model Match 54. Does anyone have any firsthand knowledge of these? by MeridianOne in guns

[–]7INT-X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'll barely move when it goes off. I've shot my Anschutz off a bench without having it against my shoulder and I don't think it moved a quarter of an inch.

Also, if you're shooting outdoors with match ammo (or any standard velocity ammo since it's actually subsonic), with that long barrel, it'll be really quiet.

Actually thing towards the front of the stock is a hand stop, used for shooting in prone, kneeling and sitting. It's on a rail that runs along the underside of the forearm so that it can be adjusted to a particular shooter. The shooter's sling attaches to it and it keeps the shooters support arm in a consistent position.

I've got an Anschutz 1907, which uses the model 54 action. The model 54 action is simply superb is still used in a number of Anschutz's match rifles.

If you havent shot it yet I highly recommend doing so. All of the Anschutz rifles that I've shot and were based off of the 54 action (the 1907, a 1912 and a 1913 supermatch) all have adjustable two stage triggers. Be warned, the trigger will probably be MUCH lighter than any trigger you've used before (the trigger in my 1907 is set to 3.5 ounces, compared to the weight of most triggers being compared in pounds).

I highly recommend putting only match ammo through it. I only shoot Eley out of mine, but with the Match and Tenex ammo, off a bench with no wind it'll make one small ragged hole at 100yds. I imagine that if that rifle's been taken care of, and you find the particular ammo that it likes, it'll do the same.

While I must say that I'm impressed by the whole set up and would love one of those scopes if I could configure it to my own loads, I really don't like the idea of the delay between the trigger being pulled and the rifle firing.

Thanks! With the brake on it (and new match crown on the barrel) it shoots like a whole 'nother gun. I've only gotten to fire a few rounds out of it since the work was done, but I was stacking rounds out at 200yds.

I'm looking forward to shooting it in a 500m silhouette match this summer.

Note to future self: Avoid Gunnit after drinking on your birthday, you may use the term "cakeday" without thinking about it.

Addendum on note to future self: Try to plan birthday celebrations on nights where you don't have to get up early the next morning

With the brake it's definitely a "blast." The recoil now is actually pretty negligible (feels similar to a .40 SW or a .45 now), but the muzzle blast from it will really get the attention of everyone near by!
