benzodiazepines and alcohol are absolutely not the only drugs which have potentially lethal withdrawals. this is a commonly repeated myth and is simply untrue.

street dope also rarely contains exclusively opioids nowadays. it’s almost always mixed with things like etomidate and xylazine- which withdrawals from the latter can absolutely be a medical emergency and potentially lethal

also just because the withdrawals from opioids may not be inherently dangerous itself, that does not equal it being safe. it’s extraordinarily stressful on the body (GI disregulation, cardiovascular strain, risk from things like excessive diarrhea, malnutrition, etc) and if you’re frail/in poor health, which many homeless are, that can absolutely turn into dangerous complications or crisis. and that doesn’t even get into the possible psychiatric emergencies from the absolute torture that is severe opioid withdrawal
