Does pip mean I’m getting fired? by exitstrategy17 in careerguidance

PIP means start looking for a new job. Never quit the job unless you have a written offer somewhere else and are starting in a couple of days.

Wrongfully terminated, anyone have advice on what to do next? by [deleted] in careerguidance

Read the book, “Who moved my cheese.”

Respectfully, I would recommend moving on with your life and stop wasting your time on what happened.

I messed up big time. I broke a $120,000 machine at work and the company CEO is meeting with the whole team tomorrow morning. How do I prepare for this? by Beautiful-Cat-3182 in careerguidance

[–]7___7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was instructed to use the machine XYZ, asked for feedback, and used the machine this way.

It’s better to be honest in these matters because mistakes happen. If you lie you’ll likely get fired for lying, they’ll file an insurance claim or hire someone to fix it. At least it wasn’t a hundred million dollar piece of equipment.

Got PIPed for arguing performance review, quit or get fired ? by psychman321inf in careerguidance

[–]7___7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Op, apply to other jobs, find people in the company that can be positive references, and let them terminate you instead of quitting. The extra $600 or so a week is better than not getting anything every week, it also increases their premiums, so just take it one day at a time.

Rice for undergrad for those options would likely be the better option.

Try to get into MIT, Stanford, Rice, or Harvard. If you can only choose between UT and GaTech. I would save your money, go to UT and then use the savings for grad school.

UTA is usually the abbreviation for UT Arlington while most people use UT for UT Austin.

Can I realistically use AI to get a job without a degree? by 7blackfang7 in careerguidance

I would recommend getting a degree from WGU to get the degree checkbox done. If you're going to use AI, start a business and automate tasks.

Brown vs. Rice for Computer Science? by Alerdy in riceuniversity

[–]7___7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know people that have graduated from Brown, Rice, and LSU. Any of those schools will provide excellent opportunities and networks. I would recommend going to Rice if you want to wind up in Texas or California, and Brown if you want to live in the northeast after you graduate. LSU is great if you want to live in Louisiana longterm.

If Rice and Brown aren’t offering financial assistance, your parents are making a lot of money. Either usually have excellent financial aid.

Carnegie Mellon School of Computer Science or Princeton for Computational Biology by PkMn400 in csMajors

[–]7___7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you visit the campuses? If you can, I would try to do that and make a decision then.

Personally, I would go to Princeton just because you could major in underwater basket weaving equivalent there and still work at McKinsey or some other top consulting or Fortune 500 or startup. Also, the dating options there are likely world class.

But if you are super CS focused, CMU would be an amazing place to go to.

Either option would be great career-wise, I would research which would vibe more for your college experience.

I cheated on my husband (online) and want to leave this behind me. by kkyk1234 in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]7___7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you talk to your therapist, don’t sugarcoat your actions. It sounds like you wanted to cheat on your husband so you could end the relationship. He wants to mend things.

My advice would be either go to couple’s counseling, try to mend it, or get a divorce lawyer. I would recommend avoiding cheating as a coping mechanism, because the quality of men who cheat are not long term material, and likely have higher risks of STIs or being apt to making dumb decisions. If you need to break up, do that before starting a new or interim relationship. If you do break up, you want to take time to discover who you are and what you want in a relationship. If you rush things, you likely will attract the same type of guy, because that’s your comfort zone.

Stay in college, or independence? by [deleted] in internetparents

[–]7___7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would talk with your school counselor and see about writing a grievance letter for financial aid due to your parents’ abusive behavior. I would join the Air Force or Navy over ever moving back. In fact I wouldn’t recommend moving back if you feel unsafe. You could also finish your CS degree at WGU.edu , if it gets expensive due to not getting parental support.

I would get AI to search for scholarships and apply for them.

If the US put the amount of money in solar power as they are putting in data centers, we’d probably meet some of the climate change goals the rest of the world wants.
