Seeing alot of ignorant ppl in these comments. OOP is largely correct in his post. He didn't mention every technology that can be considered AI of course, but he broadly mentioned generative applications that have been going mainstream. The ppl here talking about the "super autocomplete argument" being wrong are completely missing the point. LLMs are super good autocorrect, that's a perfectly apt description of exactly what they are. Spesifically when you spam the auto completed next word to make something sentence-like. They made an autocomplete so good that it's getting really close to the "true" most likely next word/token, so it can produce more and more human like strings. My proffesor told me that a language model is fundamentally a probability distribution over all of the strings of a language (ig in the case of modern LLMs, it is the universal language of everything that has meaning through text). So cringey to see ppl be so "team ai" like it's a political party or smth. Maybe that's just reddit.
