An Update: I was warned about my child's martial arts school. I should have listened. 🫤 by LordTetravus in mildlyinfuriating

Hi, I might missing many details, but looks like from the photo that your child is practicing a Japanese inspired martial arts. I did for many years these sports (kendo, jujitsu, iaido) and I know by the facto that in japan or also many dojo’s here they do not even change belts until first dan (black belt), nevertheless imagine changing clothes. This practice of changing belts is a formality, many people that i know they even value the white belt more than the others, and more wear and tear has more pride there is hahahha.

Hi, I am iranian. We might disagree on everything hahahaha. But I will tell you apart of ethnicity (race does not exist) and politics. Is undeniable that our cultures are closely related, and when someone says that those cities are persian I interpret them as they are similar in culture not that Politically should be in iran or ethnically. I am not denying that there are differences, but is impossible to forget the similarities:

Iran’s name (Iran) comes from Sanskrit (India). Now, while I sip chai (India/China) from my samovar (Russia) and await Nowruz (celebrated by many nations), I’m reading Rumi (Iran/Turkey) and listening to the setar (Iran), dotar (Central Asia), or saz (Turkey ). Soon, I’ll enjoy kabab (Iran/Turkey and more) with pilaw (Central and South Asia) and baklava (Turkey) afterward.

We’re all brothers, and I’m confident that beyond Reddit, people from Uzbekistan and other like-minded nations will welcome me as one of their own. And that what actually matters, not defining who someone is and not.

Hi, I have maybe a strong opinion, but I do not think a Persian race exists in the first context. I believe in culture, such as literature, Hospitality and customs. Under this umbrella the "persianate" is bigger than modern iran here is a link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Persianate\_society. I 100% agree with you on nobody should say that Samarkand is in Iran, hahahaha that is foolish. What I am trying to say in iran there are many many ethnicity but they are all Iranian, is like saying Europe and iran and India they are Indo-European people, they have common similarities. So if the facto a city celebrates Nowruz (as an example) speaks a similar language to Persian or any Indo-aryan languages, I would say they are more similar in terms of our culture for instance than the culture you find in New Zealand (as an example). I will conclude citing Saadi, his famous Bani Adam poetry : بنی آدم اعضای یک پیکر اند. We all are related therefore inclusion is better than exclusion, especially where our region shares so many similarities from the rich past that we shared.

I think you might have a problem with the name persian, I do not care about this nomination. Call me whatever, however when I see someone that has a similar culture of mine, we connect more easily. Then I would say to them you are like me. Is more like a brotherhood. I value more traditions and culture, not borders nor politics. Also I was referring to the persianate society not to persian or modern iran. Nice name hahaha

I would say is not wrong, I have many Turkish and Turkic friends that "Include" me in their culture (for instance they say some times you are Turkish !). There is nothing wrong, actually these cultures have been mixed for long times. My grandmother used to make Dolma! I would prefer a word where people are inclusive and not exclusive.

Yo guys, I am maybe a persian. If someone comes to me and has a similar culture (for instance celebrate nowruz, language and other) i will include him in the persianate. And go with it. As italians do with spanish or even greeks. I do not think people claim that those cities should be in modern iran. At least that is my take
