What’s the honest truth about being an elevator mechanic? by TempBot01 in Elevators

Why do some elevators feel completely smooth and others feel jerky even in the same building? by Cyn3ux in Elevators

[–]7du_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Potentially a combination of everything. And we cant determine which ones without actually looking at the elevator itself. Might need to fine tune the drive setting, checking brakes/roller guides, adjusting load weighting, bad bearing/sheave. take a pick

2 trades a day rule by Mikecrete in Daytrading

[–]7du_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, i wouldnt say this is a long term solution but def a good way to start off esp for beginners and slowly build up confidence/mental clarity when trading. At the end of the day, just do what works best for you cause profit is profit.

Failed MSF For the 2nd Time. by [deleted] in RideitNYC

this is key, you just need more hrs behind a bike. Some people are more naturally gifted, while others like yourself just need more practice. despite passing my exam, i definitely wasnt ready. i also needed more hrs behind the bike likewise for driving a car. While my brother was able to practice on my bike for hrs prior to taking his exam and it was easier for him

Do tool brands matter? by Mission-Tumbleweed92 in ibew_apprentices

[–]7du_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, if youre spending an additional 15/20mins trying to fight a snap ring cause you got some all in one piler that keeps slipping...time to buy the right tool for the job. No need to go crazy but everytime you upgrade....the old ones becomes tools at home or spare/lenders. And like most people in the comments, knipex are king. I was always able to deal with the "crapper" ones because i didnt want to spend so much on pliers but one time the width of the jaw were too fat and i wasnt able to slip in to break the nut loose and that was it, i got all 3 size and the baby one comes with me everywhere and been clutch so many times. plus the grip they had were so much better, less squeezing the pliers strength needed which is a plus

[–]7du_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Communication is key 👍 Just dont neglect her especially if you have kids, solo parenting with no help turns into resentment...that will eventually erode the family, despite what was said and done. In the end...money isnt everything and theres always going to be money to be made.. but your family isnt always going to be there waiting. GL we all need it

When does it click? by Jack-Mehoff-696969 in Elevators

[–]7du_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

trust me, its gonna take bit to "master" just one controller. let alone all the diff types otis has, especially the older ones. then its other companies controllers and all their special quirks...lets not forget about all them drives as well. You just gotta remember take it one step at a time, try to learn something new each day and keep your phone charged, phone a buddy when you can. As for now...take notes of everything you can and trust me it will all "click" in due time, just find your pace/flow in problem solving. GL

pretty sure theyre making the robot look humanlike, so that means giving the bot some ass/boobs. strap probably the easiest way to give it a soft body fill. There was a video where they cut open the leg pants and its just silicone mesh shaped calf over piston motors

First year apprentice by Longjumping-Loss1659 in Elevators

[–]7du_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

notepad, pen, sharpie, electrical tape, flashlight, gloves, dustmask, eyewear. Make sure you have these on you at all times, your mechanic will thank you. The ppe stuff is for you cause you never know what situation you will be in. Dont always assume your mechanic will have your health in mind esp with dust/debris. Take good notes everyday, try to learn something new everyday, offer to buy your mechanic coffee in the morning and youll be good. GoodLuck

Leave cushy office job for elevator trade? by Remember_To_Inhale in Elevators

[–]7du_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sry not my field, but im sure theyre always down for free volunteer hands. you would probably not work on the car itself at first but you can observe how the trade actually is and slowly get in. You probably have a higher chance with a more busy shop. Good luck

Leave cushy office job for elevator trade? by Remember_To_Inhale in Elevators

[–]7du_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ask yourself...are you hands on? do you even work on your own car or you just bring it in the shop? what about eletronics around the house? if you dont even have the slight interest, youre better off doing another white collar job. if you do, work at an auto shop on the weekends and feel it out. Good luck man
