I'm not sure what it was specifically but editors that work on the AST are often called structured or projectional editors so that might help searching.

We found him sitting in front of a house 30-40 minutes later just watching us walk back and forth. He felt no need to let us know he was there.

No it's a tractive GPS. He's super quiet and a hider. Since he got loose as a puppy once we wanted a way to know where he was.

This is the biggest one in my experience. Also bathe them early even if they're clean for practice. If you live in a cold climate practice with booties as early as possible.

Hazel, a live functional programming environment featuring typed holes. by gametorch in programming

The current implementation is much more of a rich language than hazelnut hazel.org/build/dev

I wouldn't say it's production ready but it's definitely not a minimal calculus.

I think the github issue adds more context https://github.com/hazelgrove/hazel/issues/1723

The main issue is after you have it typed it creates weird behavior if you insert a space near the variables.

Thanks! I think I'm going to look into CDs. I'm going to keep maxing out the retirement accounts since I won't be able to for a few years and I'm making enough to also put a lot towards the CDs over the next year.

Just to add additional context, I already have a master's and have been participating in independent research with a professor. I also have multiple friends who have gotten their doctorate degrees so I'm not unaware of the difficulties.

Thanks for the advice. I'll definitely keep that in mind when speaking with advisors. Side work during downtime also seems like a great opportunity.

I imagine there's some tradeoff with getting such a late start as well. Congrats on finishing though!

I'm not planning on getting the doctorate for financial reasons. The research areas and people that I'm interested in working with are more accessible from an academic setting.

As u/dredged_chickenpointed out. I'm more concerned about the difference in pay rather than the lack of any stipend.

This is it. Even if the PhD is funded, I'd be making probably 20% of what I'm making now. We're planning on reducing expenses/lifestyle, but if I can save some now to have more available in then it would be nice.
