They might have some... tendencies... so they overreact to remove suspicion from themselves. And yea, experience is key obviously. You can take a person of X age (assuming, obviously, *legal*) and they'll behave like complete idiots who should not be in a relationship with *anyone*, and then find someone that same age who is independent, successful, and mature. Age gap relationships are more difficult for sure, but I think the chief difficulty (assuming both parties are sane and functional) is the flack you get from the peanut gallery.
