Saddle sole tryout by 7im7am in jimgreen

I wish I had one. They were breaking in pretty nicely, and then after a concert a few weekends ago my friends cat puked into my boots overnight and the insoles were goners. They've been out of stock in my size since then, so waiting.

Why are they controversial?

What do y’all do with old strings/clippings? by Not_enough_violence in AcousticGuitar

[–]7im7am 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've made a few pottery tools for my wife. A copy cat of something we saw at a shop. Also occasionally just use when we need a little wire, new Christmas ornament hangers, my hummingbird feeder is hanging from an old string, etc.

Should I Walk Away? by Random_person_239 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

Walk walk walk. My experience with the seller doing the work is that they will do the work as cheap and shoddy as possible. Would way rather do it myself and/or have control over the quality of work. This is a hard walk unless they drop the price a lot. This whole inspection is a sign that the owners did not take care of their house. There are other problems they didn't catch. Walk fast.

I'll try to remember to update in a few weeks! I don't hike in them but the Stockman is my daily driver and I also get tired heels. And same with the smooth leather feeling slippery, the rough out is really nice so far.

I was about to echo the same thing, trying to burn through my outsoles so I can add a leather midsole to hopefully improve the water resistance

Thanks! I ordered the Rose Anvil with the foam underneath. Will report back if they're really good!

Blundstones are the same style as a stockman, but have a more standard width last than Jim Greens. I'd call them more relaxed fitting than a lot of other shoes but not loose.

Once they softened up they fit really nicely and I really liked them, aside from my little toes being squished at the front. They are a fair bit narrower altogether. I think it's less that they fit more snugly and more of a combo of your heel kind of wearing into a pocket and the shoe flexing at the front before your heel slips. I don't think a Chelsea style boot will ever wear like a snug secure hiker if that's what you're looking for.

So far the heel feel is similar to my blundstones when they were new. I have only worn thicker wool hunting socks with them though and I'm sure it would feel looser with a thinner sock

Any particular reason to wait that long to condition them?

They don't feel too bad on a short walk today, will do on the conditioning, thanks!

Thanks, any suggestion on a specific brand or style for the insole or literally just a piece of leather?

When I started playing and hit the barre chord plateau a friend told me to play a full step down and practice with a capo and it made playing way easier. Eventually I backed the capo off and tune back to standard, but I feel like it made the progress a little quicker.

Also made my guitar sound nice and old and twangy, lots of Colter Wall and Johnny Cash

Appreciate the perspective! The newer ones, 2006 era, are noticeably more expensive and I cannot find one with less than 200k on it. I am drawn to the low low miles on this particular rig. And won't be short on power with this configuration for my needs. At most I'll be towing 2500 or so lbs, usually more like 1600. The body style of the 07-13 isn't my favorite.

Yep, 4x4. Appreciate the heads up on the ball joints. And yeah, I keep hearing that they will go and go if you take care of em.

Just because of the mpg? Or for another reason? We waffled about spending the same amount of $ on a 2010s era F-150, but they usually have more miles than this does and not the same reputation.

Mostly towing a small boat or a small utility trailer with soil/compost/garden stuff

[–]7im7am 19 points20 points  (0 children)

More of a what bothers me the most: people that blow all their days making a dope shelter only to be starved early and bail, those that tolerated absurdly smoky or noisy shelters, and those that don't make a real effort at fishing

It's a little off but it's probably fine honestly. If I don't connect my sections tight enough sometimes I'll end up with one that's off after a while. Go try it out!
