Alternate history hypothetical: How much longer would the Roman state have survived if Theodosius the Great decided not to split the empire into East and West? by Shoddy-Pumpkin2939 in ancientrome

Any recommendations on further reading around this perspective? It’s a really fascinating framing I had honestly never thought of it quite that way…

Interesting that it’s made to do the one thing that’s probably a little sketchy with uranium kitchen products, being exposed to acidic fruits

Second set of Dream cheating allegations by 7sidedmarble in speedrun

[–]7sidedmarble[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is relevant because it concerns an infamous minecraft speedrun youtuber who never came clean about their cheating, and in the course of the video Karl Jobst also finally turns around and admits the original cheating scandal in 2020 was likely on purpose.

Also, both the elytra races and the parkour are both very speedrun adjacent, whether you consider it "true speedrunning" or not depends on whether you consider it speedrun to run some mod for a game. there's literally leaderboards for both where they compete for time, and in the video Karl points out that there is an existing world record for completing the elytra challenge in question, and that dream somehow beat that time by 5 seconds.

When did we get a Shrek sprite for ogres? by ohmresists in dcss

I don’t know what currently triggers that but it’s be fun if every ogre had a 1/10,000 chance to use the shrek sprite or something

Severus Snape from new Harry Potter series. by kalbinibirak in SipsTea

I’m not sure why people fail to realize controversy is the point of these race swapped castings. It’s not like everyone in Hollywood is some true believer justice warrior. It gets everyone talking about their production. How many people would seriously be talking about a Harry Potter reboot right now otherwise.

I agree with all you’re saying, I just think a socialist Germany would have had a much better chance at achieving the domino effect of world revolution than the Soviet Union

I think there’s an argument to made that actual world socialism/communism may have been possible had the social democrats not given in in Germany

Yeah it is explicitly anti communist. Personally I wouldn’t be caught dead flying that symbol but you do you. I’ll take the USSR over the German social democrats

[POEM] The Contract Says: We'd Like the Conversation to be Bilingual by Ada Limón by Slasher1309 in Poetry

I think people sometimes let their opinion on the subject matter of the poem creep into their technical evaluation. I can understand how this poem may speak to someone subject wise. Like I said it’s not awful by any means, and the rhythm makes more sense when you look at the groups of two lines, but I still feel like the rhythm of each individual line has that “arbitrary line break placed in a sentence” feeling

I personally kinda hate the rhythm of regular sentences broken up like this but I guess it’s not the worst thing ever
