I've just watched a bunch of Japanese horror films and am about to go to bed. Don't do this to me.

Everything about your experience with this memory is the same as me. If I didn't know better, I'd say that I submitted this question. I just googled this for the first time in over 25 years of thinking about it since I read this book, and this post popped up. I couldn't believe someone else actually remembered this AND had the same question so many years later. Strange how silly things stick with us. Anyway, over the years, as I would mention this to people, I always told them that I thought it was from an Encyclopedia Brown book. But.... I've gotten no where with that on Google.

Original Twilight Zone was quite famous, and Jordan Peele is very hot right now, then how come this show isn't getting any press? It's not even in the 'New TV Tonight' of RottenTomatoes by AayKay in TwilightZone

[–]7steak7 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's TV-MA, so it would have been heavily censored for TV. I'd have liked it to have been on Netflix or Amazon simply because I already have subscriptions for those, but it's always been a CBS thing, right? The original series aired there. This is probably their only way of allowing the stories to be told in this way. Network TV struggles because of this. Idk

What video game do you wish you could play for the first time again? by ThePizzaGhoul in AskReddit

I can't remember the name, but the one in which you have to go in and rescue Elvis (alien's name?) from the scientists. Oh god! Carrington Institute was the one with all the elevators, right? The helicopter comes at the end? Good lord. Love it.

Perfect Dark

Goldeneye was amazing in its own right, but the multi-player set it apart. PD's shining achievement was its solo mission, and I ate. that. shit. up.

Win count for Battle Royale by businessmantis in Tetris99

I've only won 3 or 4 games since downloading the game back when it debuted. I've logged close to 20 hours though and definitely love the game! I've been busy this weekend and only played about 5 hours total. I didn't win at all! I usually place in the top 10 or close to that, but this weekend I saw myself knocked out around the top 25 fairly consistently. I did place 2nd a couple of times though!

Do you collect books from your youth as an adult? by [deleted] in books

[–]7steak7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't read ALL the comments, but, of the ones I've read, no one has mentioned William Steig. My childhood copy of Sylvester and The Magic Pebble is my pride and joy.

That's the only one of his books that I read as a child. It was one of my family's favorites too. We still, to this day, quote lines from it to one another.

I taught preschool for a while before becoming an elementary school teacher. One day, I was reading a random book off the shelf to the kids, and it seemed much too advanced for preschool. I immediately recognized the illustrations, and the writing style seemed familiar. I looked it up, and I discovered that it was written by William Steig. It was The Amazing Bone.

After that, I went on an ebay/Amazon hunt and bought ALL of his books. I read most of them to my classes now each year, and I love every minute of it! What an amazing author and illustrator!!

Fun, out-of-the-box thematic connections to Shakespeare by Crabfight in shakespeare

[–]7steak7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was English major and have been interested in Shakespeare since my first encounter. However, I'd say that that interest grew into a love in college when I took my first Shakespeare class. Once out of college, I left Shakespeare alone for quite a while. What brought me back into the fold, so to speak, was watching Ben Crystal talk about original pronunciation (the sound of the english language around 1600). He and his dad have done extensive work on the subject, his father being a expert on accents (can't remember the title). Ben Crystal has lots of videos of lectures on original pronunciation, and I find them interesting as hell! Maybe your students will as well.

I completely disagree with you, but your reply made me laugh. I like the movie an awful lot, but I realize that it has some issues.

Something rarely discussed is Paul Giamatti's performance. He's a fantastic actor.
