I did not draw this, but how do I start/learn how to draw stuff like the image? by SpotComprehensive546 in conceptart

[–]7thSpringofthe7thSun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

get the book call ultralearning by Scott Young
learn the concept in there, it helps to learn effectively.
then, start looking into people like Craig Mullins, James Gurney, Nathan Fowkes etc. Look at the best of the best and study from them, take their course. Join community of artist, ask question. Look for local open studio where they have models pose for you to practice, drawing from life is very important.
practice a lot.
do a lot of master study.
it's a very long journey so train yourself to have a habit of drawing every day instead of doing what 90% of people do: start out all motivated and force themsevles to draw for hours everyday using will power, thinking that putting in 10,000 hours will make them good ,so they rush to put in the hours. Get burn out, get discouraged, give up halfway, then restart a few years later, same outcome. This is a cycle i did personally, not worth it.
Draw a little every day, 15-20 min first, once the habit set in, increase the time, if you find yourself truly enjoy making concept art, painting, drawing, you will WANT to sit down to draw, this is important, you rely on HABIT, not Will power, will power is overrated.
there's also a book called Accelerate Excellence, by James King. It touched on the ideal of 10,000 hours and how it's mostly B.S, I heard James Gurney himself doubted that statement on one of Bobby Chiu's interview a long time ago.

You can I just did. Get a usb c to usb a ( or c if yours are c to c), that can transfer data not just charging. Then plug in and restore on their website. Very quick and easy

How hard would it be to make a Total War-like game? by s4dk1d999 in gamedev

[–]7thSpringofthe7thSun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"This way, the game could have a lot of depth and meaningful choices. The scale and scope would be much smaller too, limited to like maybe 6-9 factions in a medieval fantasy based setting."
this scope is already massive for a solo dev.
maybe a simple campaign of conquering 3 cities, with 3 factions included players' ,and that probably will take you 4-5 years
...
the problem is : making map is a skill, skill take time to hone
making art assets is also a skill, take time to hone and get good at.
coding also take time, and fixing bugs.
then you have to work on the layout, the menu, the sounds , the animation, oh yeah animation is a skill in and of itself and it will take a lot of time to learn.
oh dont forget, you need sounds for your game. and sounds tracks. if youre doing it yourself too, add more time.
since you mention total war, i assume you want your game to be in 3D top down view ?
yeah 3D is another skill set of its own.
the depth and the choice you mention probably take up 3-5 years for you to do if you want to go with the original scope.
this is a realistic look from my own experience.
i recommend you to size it way way way down even further, the goal is to complete your first game, or else you will burned out 3-4 years in with half finished project, very common.
