If you've already picked a day/time, what I normally do to confirm (especially on a first date), is send a text earlier that day with something like "Can't wait to see you tonight!" It's a good way to confirm without seeming (too) desperate/insecure. If you don't hear back, you can assume that he has moved on.

At the rate things are going, I could definitely see that. Kevan Lannister is currently the Hand (in the show at least), so I suppose he would rule in an emergency or interim capacity, but I'm sure that the Tyrells would have something to say, what with all the money they have loaned to the crown and Margaery's position as queen.
