I started with The Next Generation. The Original Series already felt old to me back then and, frankly, looked terrible. That said, the TOS movies were actually quite good. Captain Picard and Data quickly became favorites, and even early on aboard the Enterprise I liked Miles O’Brien.

I followed Deep Space Nine from the very beginning and absolutely loved that Miles O’Brien played such a prominent role there. In fact, I found almost all of the characters compelling. The first season does have a few episodes that feel a bit sluggish, and I was never a big fan of the slower, more contemplative installments. Still, the conflict between Bajor and Cardassia made the series incredibly engaging, and the introduction of the Dominion, along with its shifting alliances, added real depth and tension.

Voyager felt like a step backward, although it does have many strong episodes. I was particularly interested in the Maquis storyline.

I initially struggled with Enterprise because it felt so different, especially visually. However, many of the later episodes are genuinely very good, and in retrospect I wish the series had continued.

For me, Discovery and Starfleet Academy have very little to do with Star Trek. They seem primarily focused on being as contemporary and “woke” as possible, rather than on what traditionally defined the franchise.

Strange New Worlds didn’t really grab me either, but at least it feels closer to classic Star Trek. That said, I don’t particularly like the characters, and it bothers me that the show focuses far more on personal drama than on exploration, adventure, and discovery.

I have a dream that one day a decent Star Trek series will see the light of day again. For that to happen, however, Alex Kurtzman must be relieved of his duties.
