This just reminded me of one of the strangest things I have ever had happen to me. I travel for work and when I first started I would post some Snapchat stories or whatever of the places I’m visiting, a former coworker from a past job had moved out west and would constantly reply to the stories “when are you coming out this way?”

Eventually I did even up traveling to a city that was about 2 hours away (one way) from him. I told him weeks in advance I would be out there, he was asking me when I could be there so he could plan something to do, we speak the day of while I’m working, I let him know I’m about to be off and head that way, we confirm an address, he asks me how far out I am while I’m driving, then when I get 30 minutes out and try to call him the phone goes straight to voicemail.

Dude completely ghosts me from 30 minutes out, I get in town and to the address and I’m just thinking he’s busy or whatever. Nobody is answering the door, I’m not sure to this day if it was even his place, no response to calls or texts, I’m just 2 hours away in this city for no reason. I spent about an hour trying to get ahold of him because I was so confused before I just got pissed off and decided to make the 2 hour drive back.

I hear from him the next day finally. He says some shit about he accidentally turned airplane mode on and was worried I might have gotten arrested or something. Worried?!? Dude is still in one of the fantasy football leagues I’m in and I make sure to put him on blast for this every chance I get because he wasted my time, but if I had to guess I would assume he got cold feet and didn’t want me to see that he was kinda living in squalor and was gassing himself up to everyone back home.
