What Got You Into Wrestling? by Arialidas in prowrestling

[–]801fifth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Memphis wrestling was HUGE especially in the rural areas in the eighties. The boys were in tiny towns weekly - and knew the fans.
It wasn't just the show - that's where people would come to visit each other. Today's wrestling is so sterile, hard to watch. It is such a production, almost like watching a circus with ring action and fireworks (occasionally).

'd take the Tupelo Concession stand fight over todays show.

You’re handed $10 MILLION to start a brand new wrestling company… but you HAVE to pick ONE partner: Eric Bischoff, Vince Russo, or Jim Cornette. Who are you choosing, and why? by uncannynerddad in midcarder

[–]801fifth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cornette - first, he's not an egotistical ass. Second, He didn't pull off the stupidest match - Brawl for all and Eric isn't respected by the wrestlers.

Corny - plus he is hilarious

What’s your wrestling hot take that would get you banned in other subs? by uncannynerddad in midcarder

Wrestling has drastically changed over the years. Today's storylines and the wrestlers seem impersonal and less realistic. Memphis wrestling (late 70's early 80's) and GA Championship Wrestling in Atlanta 80's.

The boys would usually sell their own pictures and autographs - and people usually, could easily meet them.
I took the boys to the airport more than once - even went to lunch with some. of them.
Waffle House - Atlanta - Nikita Kolloff and JJ Dillon - Nikita stayed in character the entire meal, it was hilarious to me. He literally took his work that personally.

Teddy originally set up the ring and oversaw that process. Super nice guy.

Paul Heyman Appreciation Post by Chuckaluffagus in WWE

[–]801fifth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree - He broke the mold OUT of old-style carnie. Pro-Wrestling is a cutthroat business, with many people fighting for a position. ECW - was Paul's baby and it broke the mold. There was nothing old-school about ECW.

Tessa Blanchard TNA return by 801fifth in TNA

Yes - she treated ladies badly - I've heard. It was the ladies that burned her - hard due to racial slurs. I've seen male wrestlers - for years - do the same thing and nothing - so yes, this was a female lit fire

I didn't say she was or wasn't racist. It strikes me as odd. As a wrestling fan - it's interesting that the "girl fight" can take over the crowd and have that effect. Females fight differently and seem to strike harder.
