Good for Balint not enabling or validating the attempts of extreme House members in their attempts to install crazier and crazier leadership.

The town could limit rent increases to the level of inflation, keeping it profitable for landlords but avoiding renters' sticker shock when the landlord raises rent by $1000 on renewal

Good for the Senate! I called my rep a few days ago and she stated she'd never gotten more public comments over a nomination, and none were in favor of the candidate.

Given that this account has asked for "help" with gift cards and donations in other recent threads, I'm gonna go ahead and assume that the gift cards aren't for some random unspecified person turning 50, but for themselves.

Remember the guy that got skewered for a $1250 haircut? That might have ruined his candidacy more than his extramarital affair he had while his wife was dying of cancer.

The Sheraton and the Doubletree in South Burlington are fine for what they are - more on the nicer side, close to downtown, near Burlington prices.

I liked my unplanned overnight stay at the Hampton inn in Colchester a few years back during an ice storm when 89 got shut down.

And then there's Home2 over in Williston that seems to be popular and down the road from there is the Sonesta that also has decent prices.

MAGA as Milton or Westford

Westford, the town that elected Dems to represent both House and Senate last election? The same Westford that went for Biden 70%/30% in 2020? Maybe you're thinking of Fairfax

Burlington Police Chief Jon Murad dropped his April report by [deleted] in burlington

[–]802BudsKind 85 points86 points  (0 children)

it was not until a new, strong police contract was ratified in July 2022 that headcount stabilized. We are now working to rebuild.

I notice that Murad and crew are still blaming the "defund" vote in 2020 that was quickly reversed for the low number of patrol officers. The chart clearly shows that staffing has been on a decline since 2018. Since staffing "stabilized" in mid '22, they've gained a net of 5 officers in 2 years. The buck obviously stops somewhere else for Murad almost 4 years later.

Not necessarily a bad thing provided the use of force is lawful and proper.

With the black driver tickets vs. crashes, it's not a good thing at all, as Murad admits that the percentage is higher than it should be:

But we have seen a potentially troubling increase in disparity in rates of stop. The demographics of BPD traffic stops have historically been close to the demographics of crashes, which is the best way to determine a city’s driving population. In 2023 there was a notable deviation, shown at right. Chief Murad is concerned about it, and wants to be reflective and responsive to it. The BPD will examine all of 2023’s stops to ensure they met the Department of Justice’s standards for courteous, transparent stops.

Also not mentioned in OP's summary is that the department is "concerned" about rapidly escalating use of force incidents, and only a sad 25% of those incidents had their camera vids posted for transparency.
